Updated Review April 29th:
We arrived 25 minutes early for our show, were greeted and helped to find our theater, only to find our seats occupied by other people. Upon inspection, their tickets were from the day before, but since ticket checking is so lax they probably hoped to just get away with watching a free movie.
The first star was lost, when our server returned, he asked to see our tickets (the same ones the manager just checked to solved our occupied seats problem and the same server who hadn't checked the last people's tickets). Then decided I needed to show ID to buy a beer, which was inconvenient since I left my wallet at home (this was totally my fault, but I'm 46!)
Another star was lost for all the foot traffic by our seats, servers making multiple trips with one or two things at a time down our row and a constant stream of "excuse me" as they walked in front going both ways. I don't need a spoken "excuse me", I know you are doing your job, but saying it out loud every time is very distracting.
If you can, pick seats away from the entrance and not on the end of a row on the entrance side. If you do, you'll be distracted throughout the film.
Speaking of distracting, that is exactly what the family next to us was throughout the film. Part of our reason for the constant flow of servers, (on our row) was they ordered all at different times. Talked loudly to the server while doing so, then discussed who had what and how it was after their food came. The four year old (yes, awesome to share Avengers with a child of that age) talked throughout the film. A constant stream of questions and commentary that was never corrected by either parent. It was to the point where my wife wanted to leave, but I talked her into staying, which I now regret.
This was one of my worst experiences at a dine in theater ever. We hope to give Flix Brewhouse another chance, but I don't know if I would chance another early show and risk the young child nonsense.
The worst part is, the whole experience ruined the new Avengers movie for my wife and I. Neither of us were able to actually focus on the film and enjoy it. It isn't all the fault of the theater, I realize that, but the serving one family of four in 8 trips issue and constant "excuse me's" could be fixed. Beware or any shows before 7:00pm.
Will update the review if I can manage to convince my wife to go for another movie. We were in the 11:45am show Seats E1 and E2 Theater 2. While this is the review for the soft opening on April 25th, I will update once I have a chance to see a movie under normal circumstances.
Atmosphere was great, friendly, open and very clean. Service was attentive but they seemed to have every possible person working, so that helped.
Beer selection was nice, they had two of their craft brews unavailable, but again, it was a soft opening. The beer they did have was excellent and the selection includes beers from other breweries beside their own in house beer.
Seats were very comfortable, table is small, if you order more than one thing at once is going to be tight. Also, if you have above average length legs, you'll be moving your feet quite a bit if you have an end seat.
Can't wait...
Read moreUpdate: I had originally given this place 2 stars and refused an attempt by them to make it right (props to them for trying, i just don't feel it's fair to change a review of a place when they know you're there to fix it).
Came back 11/2018 to give this place another shot and this place has really worked out all the kinks. Food was great (hot served hot and cold served cold), service was prompt and friendly, and while they still have rules they weren't jerks about it this time. This is what I would expect from a company that took the SMG concept and turned it up a notch. Would highly recommend over other theaters and will be back!
Previous Review
Was really excited about having a nearby theater but was pretty disappointed in the service.
Positives: Nice seating, reclining seats, food was decent, fries are very good and crispy, fairly quick service when we first got in, they are very clear on the "rules", decent beer (had both wheat beers), was clean when we came in.
Negatives: They clearly don't have a very good service strategy, there were tons of servers who were constantly tripping over each other, seemed awkward and resulted in a server spilling a beer (which was never cleaned up). They probably should have planned on more space for the reclining seats as i gave up on it mid-way through the movie due to servers tripping over the chair. The food came out only mildly warm, not hot (quite baffling with the number of servers they had). Also, if you want something besides ketchup on your fries you need to go somewhere else as I requested ANYTHING but ketchup and the only way they would give me queso or ranch or anything else for the fries is if i ordered the chips and queso or the loaded fries separately. Also, can someone please bring me some water!?!? (we politely asked for water on 3 separate occasions, including our initial order and twice more throughout the movie, and we never got any). I also ordered their loaded fries after receiving our meals and they were never served to us. My wife wanted a dessert and again no service.
Overall: Okay food, but if you want really good service and much better food plus a larger selection, make the trip to Studio Movie Grill instead. SMG's food, drinks and service are leaps ahead of this place. Flix is more on par with one of the Cinemarks or AMCs that tried to copy the SMG model. The rules about timeliness, etc are very clear and I appreciate that, I didn't run into the issues a lot of people complained about. But for a place that wants to enforce a higher level of customer compliance the overall experience falls extremely flat. I'll probably come here again, but only because it's convenient for an afternoon movie and probably not if I want a meal at...
Read moreSo, you want to go the movies but you want something strong than a Pepsi. Looking for that date night alternative. You want to do a bait and switch for a birthday, team building or holiday party? I have a great place you need to consider. Flix BrewHouse is a wonderful option. Now, I donât normally go into the âfoot or elbowâ of Little Elm but I had a chance to check out the digs during a special event. Sarah, Regional Sales Director, welcomed us and provided drink tickets, a snap-shot spread of all their food options, and viewing of the newest Brad Pitt movie Ad Astra. Flix BrewHouse is relatively new so it still has that new car smell throughout. The wonderful and amazing thing is this movie has brews their own beer. YES, they have beer options that you know and they have about six beers in house made by our favorite Little Elm guy, Moose! You can see the beer works when you step inside the building and see his smiling face. He knows heâs way around a stout, as I tried previously during a beer share, but I wanted to stay up for the movie. J I stayed on the lower abv. but I sampled all the offerings. The only thing I gave me pause was the bartender wasnât that thrilled I wasnât sure on what I wanted and asked for samples. Maybe people jump to the bar and ask for 2-4 tastes and never get anything but thatâs not me. Iâm truly trying to get something I would sip on for 2+hours. The best way to avoid that would be to engage your customer to help the process, but I digress. The buffet has so many different choices. I found out later it was a bit off each menu that Flix BewHouse can tailor to a couple of people to a packaged group. They had samples from the three: Fajita Buffet, Social Network Buffet (green chile queso dip/chips, wings, and etc. Magnificent 7- BBQ menu. I make couple of choices and go into the theatre. I loved the chips and dip. It was spicy but in a great way. The chicken was tasty and spicy as well. I just needed a little ranch. The waist staff was eager to accommodate me. They have plush leather seating and reclining chairs. I really like the tray that you can pull in and it can hold a plate easily. I reclined, and ordered a popcorn midway because itâs hard for me not to go to the movies without popcorn. Itâs impossible not to do. Iâm so glad I did because that popcorn was seasoned. It was seasoned well. The extra popcorn salt wasnât needed. That doesnât happen. I took leftovers home because I was stuffed. If youâre near Frisco/ Little Elm and you need a wonderful space to have team building, birthday party or networking, I can recommend Flix BrewHouse. Sarah mentioned she can work with any size to create a package to fit...
