We visited Kayaks on the Water on 7/4/2017 and had an absolutely fantastic time!
At the time of writing, the charge is only $10/person per hour.
SUMMARY: The weather was perfect, and we had an absolutely phenomenal time!
HIGHLIGHTS: The sea jellies (jellyfish) are awesome! (NOTE: They're NOT the type that sting.) The staff is very helpful, courteous, and efficient. We arrived when Kayaks on the Water opened for business (9:00 am), and it wasn't crowded at all! Fellow boaters, longboarders, and kayakers are all very nice; they'll smile, wave, and say "hi."
GENERAL TIPS FOR VISITORS: Be sure to bring CASH with you, because Kayaks on the Water does NOT accept payments by credit card. Parking is available on the residential side streets, but it fills up quickly, so be sure to arrive EARLY. (We parked on a side street at 8:45 am, and parking was already scarce at that early time slot.) Be advised that this is KAYAKING. You WILL get wet, and there's even a chance that you could capsize, so pack your electronics in a Ziploc bag! (Kayaks on the Water provides Ziploc bags.)
GENERAL TIP FOR THOSE WITH BICKERING PARENTS: Place your parent in the FRONT seat of the kayak. The sea breeze will make it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to hear...
Read moreAwesome socially distant activity to do with friends and family that won't break the bank ($12/hr for a kayak). Kayaks on the Water makes it super easy to rent online and speed up your check in process. Their safety video online was very cheesy, but because it was so corny, it made it quite enjoyable to watch.
We came on a cloudy day in April and it was actually very cold, so parking on Ocean Blvd, was very easy. There was plenty of spots nearby, and also parking in the residential areas not too far away. Just be sure to read the signs carefully.
The check in process was as easy as they said it would be online. They provided all of us with life vests, and they had single kayaks, double kayaks, and even stand up paddle boards. They were also nice enough to allow us to change up our rentals last minute, since it was kind of windy and cold out on the water, some of us did not want to try stand up paddle boarding and decided to stick to the safer route and kayak.
Since they are located in the Marina, it also feels safer as the waves aren't as choppy, especially once you are in the canals. Great experience and glad to have rediscovered it. Will be coming back more often now that summer is...
Read moreFun time and AMAZING staff! I've kayaked a few times but recently went with my sister to try paddleboarding for the first time. If you're a first timer, they do make you watch the safety video and do a little instructor class (like less than 10 min) so they can make sure you know what you're doing once you get away from the kayak place. My sister had surgery on her knee and wasn't sure she's be able to do it but this awesome guy helping us took some extra time going over some more comfortable stances or positions for her and even gave her an extra life vest to pad her knee. I thought it was super sweet because he really wanted my sister to be able to enjoy her time out there.
Their website does a great job explaining payment, reservations, waivers, prices, etc. A good chunk of this stuff can be done ahead of time making your check-in process a lot quicker so you can get out on the water.
Pet Friendly?: Yes! 🐶👍 I was able to bring my dog with me to kayak! I did bring his own life jacket though so plan...
