Update: We finally took a day to explore and there were so many surprises! First were the beautiful flowers followed by this tucked away spot that had multiple little hideout spots, one had this boulder in the center hidden by trees that looked like the head of an ancient giant snake turned to stone - the details of what would be the "eye" and even what looked like the texture of the skin, so cool to think of the possibility. But who knows, could just be my imagination & it could just be a rock. We then followed this trail that led to a complete dropoff (proceed with caution, use your brain) where I first found perfectly polished rocks, the kind you'd buy by the bag from like Amazon. They were oddly scattered within site but in places where danger lurked like the edges of the drop-off or in between thorny branches followed by a seashell, odd place as there's no sea water near, which made me think: Fairies/Fey. So I asked if it was the fairies playing tricks on me and if so, to show me another seashell. 5 or so minutes later, another seashell. You don't have to believe but our experience next I'm certain Fairies live and play here and will make themselves known, even play with you if you choose to believe. Anyways, fully enjoyed the day spent here. Original: Haven't actually taken a stroll around during daylight hours but have at night. The parking lot is also a nice chill spot for my boyfriend and I to stop and park at when we just want a break from the apartment or when we're out running errands and don't wanna go home quite yet.... Where we can talk or just vibe to tunes. We actually slept there a night or two in our vehicle right before we moved into our place to save from spending money on another night at a hotel. And although many cars came and went, nobody bothered us or paid us any attention. Will definitely check out during the day, take some...
Read moreOur last minute picnic and short hike idea around Longview Point at Willow Springs Park was delightful and relaxing. The park has some trees and vegetation but the area is very raw and underdeveloped, creating a very unique park user experience unlike any other parks in Long Beach, California. Don't expect to see manicured lawns, pristine landscape and established trails here. Come here with an open mind and you'll be pleasantly surprise to find peace and tranquility with million dollar views.
Longview Point at Willow Springs Park rest above the Sunnyside and LB Municipal Cemetery and is located on Orange Avenue between Willow and Spring Street. It sits on the highest point of the Willow Springs property and provides 360-degree views of the Long Beach skyline, the Port of Long Beach, Rancho Palos Verde, and the Los Angeles Basin and San Gabriel Mountains. If you hike around the area the look hard enough, you'll find round ceramic geological markers on the ground with longitude and latitude coordinates of interesting landmarks in Southern California. Some of the markers include: Griffith Park Observatory, Point Fermin, Cahuega Pass, Waterman Mountain and many more. See if you can find them all. Other interesting things you'll find here multiple concrete steps and stairs leading up to big trees but no...
Read moreLove this place! Its fairly new and although it's less than a 3 minute drive for us, we just recently started to go with the kids. They enjoy it and it's not at all straineous of a walk for little ones. We've hiked the Palos Verde trails before and this is a mini version of it. They have nice paths and it smells amazing after some rainfall due to all the locally grown plants and flowers. I'm assuming its dog friendly since there are no signs stating otherwise, just please clean up after your pets and keep them on a leash since there are rabbits roaming free and some people have even seen coyotes late at night. It's still being developed and I can see them working on more trails and pathways so hopefully it's done. The parking lot is always full but it's usually for people who are parked. We've gone when the whole lot was dull only to find ourselves the only ones on the path. I truly hope people don't f*ck it up somehow and get this place closed down. I would like to see it...
