Some people say it looks like a giant flushing toilet...perhaps from up high but to me it's just a functional fountain in that it doesn't splash me as I walk by or sit on the ledge to enjoy my lunch.
It's not in a super shaded region of campus but the surrounding buildings provide a bit of protection from too much direct light.
