I love the Inn at UCLA! I even like it better than the Luskin. Here is what is great about it. First, it's on the UCLA campus, right next to the Sculpture Garden. That makes it easy to get from the Inn at UCLA to everywhere else you want. Second, the building is lovely, relatively small and intimate. Third, the breakfast is wonderful and much of it is healthy (more on that in a bit). Fourth, the people working at the hotel are really nice, especially the woman (sorry, don't remember her name) who puts out the breakfast in the morning, and many of the front desk people (who know me by now, since I go there so often). Everyone is just so friendly and helpful. Fifth, the facility has good wifi, a business center with free printing, a laundry room... Sixth, the price is much less than the Luskin, and generally less than all the other hotels in the area. Fabulous, in other words! Now, I only gave rooms 4 stars, because they are a bit outdated; I don't mind, but some people prefer more updated rooms.
But back to the breakfast. So much of it is great -- smoked salmon, greek yogurt, berries, hard boiled eggs. The rest is not inspiring (the bread and bagels are not particularly good, and the danishes are really not worth eating, the instant oatmeal is awful). The coffee machine is reasonable (not as good as Peet's but okay).
But here's something I wish they would change. It used to be that breakfast was available at 6 AM, but now it's not available until 6:30. For someone like me who is traveling from states 2 or 3 time zones away, not having breakfast available until 6:30 actually makes a difference compared to 6:00. I have work zoom meetings that start at 6:30 and it would be so much better to have breakfast already! I don't know why they moved the breakfast time to 6:30. Could they move...
Read moreLeaving this review, especially for patients of UCLA Medical Center and their families and also health reasons because of the mold and smell . The UCLA Inn (Guest House)Is not a great place to stay if you are a patient at the hospital (UCLA MED CENTER) OR family of a patient. I say this because they are not friendly when checking in and make it clear that they cater to students and that they told the hospital they shouldn’t refer patients or families to stay here - WOW The rates online are also not true. Once you get there they tell you their rates MUCH HIGHER OF COURSE and say it’s a mistake on their website. The location is close to the hospital, which is why I chose this place as my daughter was having a major surgery and because it was on the list for patients and patient rate and I also needed to be close to the hospital. They are not accommodating like a regular hotel at all and nor are they friendly .😕the important concern about this Inn is the mold and smell in the entire place and especially the room I stood in which was #193. We checked out a day early because of this. The lady at the counter when checking out, stated it was just musty, not mold, but you can see the black in the corners of the room and the water stains and mold on the walls. Carpet is very outdated and also smells. The only positive thing about this place that I can honestly say is it was close to the hospital but again they made it clear They do not like patients to stay there so if you are a patient or a family member do not stay here especially...
Read moreMy grandson and I stayed for three days earlier this month and were very pleased with our stay. We found every one to be very friendly and they did everything possible to make our stay a pleasurable one. The continental breakfast is quite amazing, it has so much to offer and changes each day. Cappuccino, lattes and expressos plus fruit, bagels, and so much more. The happy hour includes a couple of beers or wines and is themed each night from around the world with meats and cheeses etc to match the beer and wine. Our bartender Jeremy was great and very friendly and Lupe made us feel right at home as she served us each morning. Joseph kept things running smoothly through the evening and had answers to any questions we had about the area and school. Madine at the front desk Was very friendly and helpful and all the other staff the we did not get to know their names made our stay a super one. The house is located right on campus so we could really get the Ucla experience. It was perfect to allow my grandson the comfort to get to his med school interview quickly, rested, well fed and on time and we are optimistic that he may be a bruin in the fall, we will be back. Thanks to all of you at the Ucla...
