My wife and I stayed at the luskin for a few nights - although we only ended up using two of the three... We had a nice room overlooking the UCLA football practice fields. The facilities are "4-star" but the customer service is "1-star"; let me tell you why...
Do you own a $350,000+ McLaren 720S? Or possibly something more practical like a $35,000 Honda Pilot? If you want to be treated well but also threatened by bums, show up in your 720S. If you want to be treated at 1/10th normal customer service, show up in your Honda Pilot.
Scene 1 [Honda Pilot pulls into roundabout] Concierge: "You can't stop there." [Me, wondering what the roundabout is used for then(???)] Me: "My [pregnant] wife is just going to check in." C: "This is for unloading heavy bags only and we need to keep this clear." [I look around, there are no other vehicles] Me: "Well, I happen to also have a heavy bag." [Unloads bag myself from car. Concierge tells me to stay with the car as my PREGNANT wife pulls in a double size suitcase to check in. Me patiently waiting, wishing the Concierge was terminated on the spot.]
If you don't like that, make sure you show up instead in your McLaren!
Scene 2 [720S pulls into roundabout, daylight. Some looks from Concierge and passersby. 720S stays there for 30 minutes without anyone batting an eye]
Scene 3 [720S pulls into roundabout, night.] Beggar: "Hi, my name is XXXXXXX, I've just come from Orleans, got signed to Imperial, do you have bus money, Jay Z is my producer, I'm a famous rapper, do you stay here, what number, can you get me a room, help me out, got any money, I'll take a gas card, etc..." Me: "I'm sorry we can't help you get a room." [Beggar goes to my PREGNANT wife and begins to become threatening] My wife: "We don't have anything for you." [Beggar continues to approach/ act threatening. I'm thinking 'where is the security?']
Scenes 1, 2, and 3 all happened within a 30 hour period. Regular car = poor service. Fancy car = great service. Fancy car at night = scared for our unborn child's life because security is inadequate.
If you're looking for something nice. This is not your place ... +4 Google Stars for facility and -3 Google Stars for customer service. Honestly, I'd rather stay at a 3-Star hotel if they have normal customer service and...
Read moreTo be clear, this hotel is only getting 4 stars from me because I love the staff (Milton, Michael, and Jeremy particularly). Like, “love, love,” as in not dissimilar to Kate’s affection for Leo amidst the sinking Titanic (overly dramatic? I’ll leave that to the reader).
When Milton said goodbye because he wouldn’t be there the last two days of our stay (his off days), I was genuinely sad. He’s a delightful person and spectacular at his job (not good, not great, spectacular, which is better than good and great).
When I discovered the rooms don’t have a refrigerator included (you can pay a small fee for one), Michael went out of his way to get one very quickly and even called to ensure it was delivered. Jeremy had to put up with us on several matters and was always accommodating and clear.
Now, the hotel. It isn’t terrible generally, and I admit that my annoyances have mostly to do with my situation specifically, but— no fridge without a fee (as mentioned previously), no microwave (on the property), no door on the shower (like, they were purposefully designed without a door). I could go on but this review is lengthy as it is (you are very welcome for breaking it into small, manageable paragraphs).
I’m a bodybuilder, so the microwave situation was….not good. There was some sorcery going on in that room. In the end, I was able to tell my coach in good conscience that I did my best to stay on plan (shout out to Starkist chicken packs and Crystal hot sauce).
I’ll not address the lack of shower door.
In summary: Staff: 5 stars Hotel: 3 stars TOTAL = 8 stars Average = 4 stars
(Is the math above at all reasonable? Doubtful, but it is how I reached 4...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Luskin Hotel and wanted to share my experience. I appreciated the hotel’s cleanliness and its convenient location on campus, which made my stay enjoyable in many ways. The onsite parking is easy and convenient although a bit pricey. The layout, cleanliness, and overall environment are excellent and very well maintained. I appreciated the effort put into creating a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing space.||However, I had a disappointing experience at Plateia. The food I received at dinner was undercooked and lacked flavor. In addition, several staff members seemed visibly annoyed by guests and appeared overwhelmed, which made dining uncomfortable. Even if staff are stressed or busy, it is unprofessional to be so conspicuous about it in front of guests or for it to be projected in a way that alters the level of service. This behavior takes away from the guest experience and does not reflect well on the hotel’s brand. They should either get more staff for peak service hours or provide training to help staff manage busy periods with grace and professionalism.||Overall gorgeous space, but the staff’s demeanor and training don’t seem aligned with the level of service expected at this class of hotel, so it undermined the whole experience. If they can level up on the service front they would exemplify a five...
