if you live in the city of Smog it can be hard to get quality organic locally grown food. So that means most everything is shipped in, even to the Whole Foods , Trader Joes, etc. So your left with going to these markets. A close friend lives about 1 block and a half from here and must come here all the time. My first experience here was quite positive. Obviously space is limited, but I guess I'm used to more vendors and more options, but I'll give them an extra star for the quality of cheeses, seafood and spreads I sampled.

I ended up getting about 3 pounds of golden beets, and a pound of king trumpet mushrooms, fairly uncommon ingredients. I tried some really amazing cheeses and spreads and I got an oyster shucked for $2.00 (only bad thing was Roland Heights sold oysters by the box which ended up being $0.50 each). These tasted just a little more fresh, but they used lime's instead of lemons. I was amazed at the sushi grade fish selection, right up there with Catalina Offshore Products down in San Diego. I found their salmon roe to be late season catches due to size and very globular. Only 2 vendors had golden beets and 1 mushroom vendor. I expected more food (Drey's BBQ was using Mesquite on all meats which I found off). I myself am no novice with the BBQ and prefer certain woods on certain cuts and meats. I'd love to issue 5 stars, but I guess I was looking for more variety in food vendors and not farmers, who were great. A 4.5 all the way, but alas I err on the side of critical because I've been to miles of vendors with the full gamut of food that is all locally grown...

Mar vista farmers market, a staple for the Mar vista/ Venice community.

The farmers market is open every Sunday (unless posted on their Instagram). Expect it to be packed after 10:30am. The market offers fresh produce, eggs, meats, baked goods, cheeses, condiments, oils, flowers, and a variety of food & beverages. Local farmers surrounding or within Los Angeles county participate as vendors and will happily greet you, furthermore will answer any questions at hand. Produce is always fresh and fragrant.

There’s a reason why mar vista farmers market gets packed and has been expanding for several a years. You’ll be able to buy most if not all your grocery needs here. If you’re hesitant to visit or make the trip, I’m here to say visit Mar vista farmers market. It’s a great place to spend your Sunday, whether to relax, eat, grocery shopping, or all of the above.

If you’re reading up to this point, Arnett farms and valley center growers are my go to for oranges and fruits. Arnett farms offers free samples of their fruit, which is great and gives the customers insight to what they are buying (quality wise). For veggies I head down to Tamai family farms located at the center of the farmers market. One thing to note is that their mint and herbs are always so fragrant, delicious too. Last thing will be, try out the Quiche spot, which usually gets packed around 11am, haven’t tried it but will do in the next couple of...

The Mar Vista Farmers' Market is a great time. The streets are closed off, but you will find parking and not have to walk more than a block to get to it. It is large, but not so huge that you will not have the time or energy to go to 100s of booths. They just have the best of the best.

It is a locals' Farmers' Market but tourists are greeted with smiles. We are a friendly bunch.

It gets crowded but not so bad that you can't get to a booth you want and get waited on pretty fast.

They have everything, from fresh fruits and vegetables to meats and treats. They sometimes have wine and they always have flowers. We love their ice cream booth from New Zealand, and this is not an easy ice cream to find. They also have clothes and assorted things for your home.

The prices are reasonable and there are plenty of places to sit and take a break or eat what you just bought.

It is assessable to all and if you are wheel chair bound, you will get through just fine, because we simply are not a rude crowd. Kids run and have fun and there is always something for kids to enjoy.

We love this place....
