🛳️ Private Historical Experience 🛳️ We practically had the entire ship to ourselves during our visit! It was surreal exploring this massive WWII vessel without crowds, giving us the freedom to take our time and truly appreciate every detail.
⚓ Living Maritime History ⚓ The S.S. Lane Victory offers such rich history as an authentic WWII cargo ship. Walking through its many decks and compartments gave me a genuine appreciation for the sailors who served aboard this vessel during wartime operations.
🧭 Complete Ship Access 🧭 I loved that we could explore virtually every part of the ship! From the bridge and captain's quarters to the engine room and crew quarters, you get a comprehensive understanding of what daily life was like for those who called this vessel home.

Read moreOur Cub Scout group had the incredible opportunity to visit the S.S. Lane Victory this past Sunday, and it was an experience that left both kids and parents in awe! From the start, the volunteer staff welcomed us with enthusiasm and shared their deep knowledge of the ship's history. It was clear that they truly live and breathe the mission of the ship, making sure every visitor, young and old, had a meaningful experience.
The kids were fascinated by the stories of the ship’s service, and the parents were just as impressed by the ship's capabilities and how well-preserved it is. The hands-on tour allowed everyone to explore everything from the engine room to the deck, and we were all amazed by the ship’s history and operational power.
It’s evident that the crew is passionate about preserving this piece of history, and they go above and beyond to ensure the ship’s story is passed on to future generations. We really appreciated how they made history come alive in a way that was engaging and educational for everyone in the group.

Read moreThere is a lot of history in the lower deck of this ship docked in San Pedro. It is named after Isaac Lane, an African-American Church planter of the 1880’s. One delightful thing about this ship is that unlike the Iowa Battleship which moored two miles away, this ship is tied by ropes to the dock. Therefore, it floats and moves with the harbor waves. At first, I thought it was a side effect of some pain medicine I took! However, my fiancé said she felt the ship rocking back and forth too. That made the tour all that more realistic. The down to earth ship’s cook Bobby took a group of us around the ship with great tips about the service of this historic ship museum. We especially liked the conning tower and the inner workings of the ship. We suggest you call ahead before visiting because this ship still is used for filming special events and civic documentaries just as it was during its heyday as you will learn.
