How did this hotel get 4+ star reviews? Are they paid reviews?
Mattress has no support left & needs to be replaced. Inner spring and there was no spring left. When I asked for extra mattress pads to try and just be polite and get thru it, they didn't bring them. Called again and housekeeping said they "don't stock extra mattress pads." Which means they're not washing them. Gross. I doubt they replaced it even after I reported it at checkout, though the person checking us out pretended to take the feedback seriously. I'm so thankful I'm seeing the chiropractor this week. My low back has stung me every time I reach down or bend since the second day of sleeping on that trash bed and I'm praying he can correct the damage. A/C compressor broken and they had to fix it while we were there. Who knows how long it was like that. The sensor for the remote was also gunked up and not working, so he bad to clean the inside of the A/C while we were there. Heater and Dry functions still don't work, but it's progress, I guess... They have only 1 maintenence person. Had to run out for a toilet issue in the middle. Sliding doors to bathrooms don't provide enough grasp or privacy and they're heavy and the rollers don't move well or they are off track and drag/scrape (you can see the scrapes even in the Jr Suite, which was especially dumpy.) Our room had never been aired out and was very dusty. I left the window open to let it air and housekeeping closed it. They also messed with the A/C setting, so it was freezing in the room when we got back from a cold evening out. Carpet runs everywhere. They're using cheap office carpet squares and ought to switch to hardwood if they don't want to take care of them when they're damaged. That's the whole point of using squares: easy repair when damaged. They're just not doing it. Even in the Jr suite. Loud fridges placed on the floor, so if you have a fall risk, the safe and fridge will be dangerous. We unplugged ours because it kept us up all night. Coffee pot on a shelf/drawer inside the dresser. That's not a fire hazard? Junior suite (relative's room) had deep stains on all the sofas, carpet runs, dust and again the weird situation with the fridge on the floor. Good grief. I'd be angry if I had paid for that. Loud people in the hall at all hours. They put someone with kids upstairs above us, so we got to listen to their toddler stomping around for several hours of the early morning. Between rooms was actually quiet, but I'm sure that was luck of the draw. Restaurant service is bad, slow, overpriced, and they know it, so they force a service charge in place of a tip for every meal. The servers are all rude except the really old guy. Some may not speak English and couldn't understand our request to join our relatives at a 4-seat table. Don't get the veggie soup. It's canned noodle soup with a few noodles, garbanzo beans, celery, carrot, and one tiny slice of a 2" baguette. It's heart disease level salty, too. That's not a $12 meal or foccaccia. The tea was ok. The avocado toast seemed okay when I saw a relative order one for breakfast. The breakfast burrito egg is... Weird. Foamy eggs. Kinda, well, weird. It'd be better if they set up a buffet style breakfast and walked away. We found out after we checked in that we could have gotten a free shuttle to and from the airport and cruise piers, but ONLY if you asked for one at checkin. Only at checkin. It's about half a mile away from any shop or outside place to eat, so a shuttle that goes to town and can be used freely like the hotels in Italy we stayed with would be better service. Feels cheap when they don't even throw the shuttle in without a catch. Pool wasn't heated, so that prevented a much needed evening swim and is only open from June 1 to Jan 1. This is California. It's not snowing or iced over from Jan to June. What's the point of offering a (not actually) heated pool for only half of the year? I don't get this.
I wouldn't stay at a DoubleTree again. It's as puffed up a...
Read moreDate of stay: 4/7/25||We have stayed at this hotel several times over the years prior to departing for a cruise. The first couple times we drove to the hotel and left our car in their parking lot. The times lately we flew into LAX and had transportation to the hotel.||When we left our car there it worked fine and was Free. Then after a couple years they started charging $10 a day. Now it is $25 a day – no valet, no covered parking, no security and the lot needs a lot of work. This is a busy hotel so they are taking in a large amount of money and offering nothing in return.||There is a small shop in the main lobby where you can buy snacks and such. They charge $6 for a bag of chips and $10 or more for a can of beer.||Their food is typically overpriced as at any resort. We tried Happy Hour a couple times instead. This last time we got a couple beers and an order of nachos. The nachos consisted of about 15 chips with cheese melted over the top and we caught sight of 2-3 pieces of tomato and onion. They were reasonable priced at $6 but for what you got the cost was still too much. Also, they automatically add a 20% gratuity to your bill. The room was chilly, there were cracks in the upholstery on many of the chairs and the furniture are in pathetic shape.||The check-in process was a disaster. Many people arrived early, often because that is when the flights get them in town. Several of them were there as early as 7 or 8 in the morning and they had to sit and wait all that time. Quite often they are elderly and often in wheel chairs. The day we checked in, there were people all over the place waiting. Why they aren’t put into rooms as soon as one is available made no sense to us. When we arrived there were no rooms available. We were told to come back at 3:30. Everybody else that arrived was told the same thing. Imagine the chaos when everyone swarms the front desk at 3:30 to check-in. We asked at 2 o’clock and got the same story. Does that means that at 2:00 no rooms are ready, but magically all the rooms are going to be ready then at 3:30? Past years the front desk used to go out of their way to help get people into their rooms as quickly as possible. The staff was friendly but not accommodating.||If you plan on using the fitness room, dress warmly as it is very cold in there.||Overall, it seems the hotel takes advantage of their cruise guests and all the others who stay there with their high prices and the knowledge that there are not any other options in walking distance. They have taken price gouging to a new level.||After we checked out I received the usual survey about my stay. I responded in great detail as I have outlined in the paragraphs above. I got back the typical form letter “we are so sorry we did not meet expectations….come back soon.” I even sent a follow up email to the Front Office Manager who had responded with the form letter asking why they didn’t address any of my concerns. As you might imagine there was no response there as well.||It is a nice hotel in a good location but be prepared to be taken...
Read moreThe photos of the property are so deceiving! Stayed here last week (Aug 8th,2024) overnight thankfully for just one night, prior to our cruise out of Port of Los Angeles. I would easily compare this hotel to what I think of when I think of what a Motel 6 is like. This hotel is GROSS, old and outdated! We contemplated leaving and going elsewhere but they had already charged my card and anything else last minute was gonna be another $350+ on top of what we already paid here.
Upon check-in the guy at the front desk was nice but that was the extent. We had to ask for cookies and we asked about breakfast options. I had to come back downstairs to ask for our complimentary waters that are usually offered during our check in process for our status.
The majority of our outlets did not work at all in our room. None of them worked in the bathroom, leaving me to try to find one in the room that did work to plug in my hair dryer and curling iron. We had to unplug something that was working, to use the outlet. I reported it to the front desk and just asked them to please fix it for the next guests. He offered me some additional Hilton reward points for the inconvenience which was nice but I'd rather have been offered a better room with plugs that worked. The beds squeaked when you sat on them and the room itself looked run down and old. The bathroom door had a hole drilled into it which was random.
We ate in the restaurant only because we had F&B credit from booking with a credit card that gives you the F&B credit. The service was ok, breakfast was mediocre. The windows to look out to the harbor were filthy, you could hardly see out them to enjoy a view. My husband who usually says nothing commented multiple times how gross the hotel was. The ONLY good thing about our hotel room was the A/C ran nice and cold!
Additionally, we stayed here because of the free shuttle to the port the next morning to avoid paying for an Uber. Wrong. Unless you’re getting to the hotel, very early to put put your name down on the list essentially it’s first come first serve But we didn’t get in until the evening and by then the shuttle times were too late past our boarding time for the ship so we had to take an Uber anyway. And for how close it is to the port, it still ran $16. Not terribly expensive by any means, but this was the biggest reason we were staying here.
There is also absolutely NOTHING around this area to go do or to go eat and Ubers are EXPENSIVE. You're way better off paying a little bit more and staying near the convention center and the outlets and aquarium area. Lots of restaurants and things to do there.
Needless to say, we will never stay here again when we come for a cruise. I would never ever ever recommend anyone to stay here. The kicker is I got an email stating the hotel reached out to me and my "issues were resolved" and the email hoped it was resolved to my satisfaction. I never had anyone reach out to me. Nor would I want them to unless they were...
