I started coming here October of 2021 & I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the place and the array and set up of workout equipment. I especially am fond of the exercise equipment that moves with you while you workout. I will say, I enjoyed my experience here before 2022 began and they got the wave of new customers coming in for their resolutions. Just as many other people say, no one really wears or enforces masks & they used to keep their paper towels stocked across the gym so you could clean equipment before & after use. However iām not sure if they just got overwhelmed because of all of the new people at the gym (it is very crowded now. especially from the hours of 4:30ish to about 8), but thereās never any paper towels to clean equipment which has been kind of gross, especially as someone who sweats a lot I know how gross it is to want to use a machine after iāve just been on it. They donāt have hot water so washing hands is a bit unsanitary. They also have not been enforcing people moving dumbbells and benches around the gym so itās always difficult to find what you need, especially during these peak hours. Thereās one young guy that works here later in the evenings that is always very very sweet to customers, smiles behind his mask and says hello and goodbye everytime people come in. The other guy who is older seems to only really talk to/be friendly with womxn (particularly feminine & fit womxn) and fit men. Itās a little weird but not a big downer for the entire gym experience.
Biggest drawbacks: Overcrowded (a lot of kids go here too & will all take up a whole section of workout machines or weights which gets very irritating), lack of cleaning supplies distributed, lack of enforcing re-wracking weight/dumbbell policy, no hot water, +$5 member charge if you enroll with card & not with a bank account. (Still, $30 seems reasonable for all they offer.)
Biggest pros: A variety of different machines available to differentiate your workouts, 2 less crowded upstairs cardio/ab areas (one of those spaces hosts a class at some times so not always available), a dimly lit, almost club-like experience while working out that has made the experience more enjoyable (to me at least!)
Iād definitely recommend this gym for people who can maybe come earlier in the morning/day. Itās less crowded and more of a pleasant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGym is fine if only you can find the dumbbells in right place or machines not hogged by people on their phones. BILLING is what this review is really about, so read before you signup : They find one way or another to charge you more than monthly fees. Late fees are how they really make money and VERY IMPO TO NOTE : "annual fees are charged twice in a year". I joined in Aug, paid annual fees, paid first and last month and have been paying every month on time. But their billing and front desk makes a mess every time charging wrong card and then charging late fees. That fiasco was barely over, now they are demanding new annual fees even though I barely joined 5 months ago. Both their billing and customer service is horrible on phone and inept in person. I have tried sorting it out in person or over phone, no help, same miscommunication, same overbilled charges. I CANT STRESS MORE THAT BE ON WATCH IN YOUR DEBIT CARD AND CREDIT CARD, THE EXTRA CHARGES THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.
Update: I did speak to Alexia twice, once in person when she didn't even allow me to use gym even though the last month was paid up on sign up. She's pretty cold and blunt, won't even let me cancel the contract either . And when I called her again after 3 days, she told me to call Mark at their Van nuys location. Mark turned out to be a total douche on phone, alarmed at my catching their system of sneaking in 2 two time annual fees . He sounded annoyed, discourteous and hung up rudely before offering any resolution. So now I'm going to cancel and dispute with my bank again. Hopefully someone higher in mgmt fixes and replaced these bad cogs causing customers issues and disrepute...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorse gym management Iāve ever met in my years of going to gyms. I just moved to LA and have been searching for a new gym to call home as my one on the east coast was amazing and itās been hard to find a good match. Speakeasy looked like a great location that I definitely wanted to give a try move committing to a long term membership. I signed up for the 30 day trial pass and then Ubered up to the gym since I donāt have a car yet. When I showed up management told me that I wasnāt eligible for my pass since my drivers license didnāt have my address living within 5 miles. Since I just moved I still have my North Carolina drivers license and canāt get my California one for a year until Iām considered a full time resident. I offered to show my lease agreement and proof of residence within the 5 miles but he refused. He then said he was going to āhelp meā by instead of doing the 30 day trial I could do a year membership and save money monthly. I told him I wanted to try the gym out first before committing long term so he said what I could do instead is signup month to month for one month and pay $150! Might as well go to Equinox for that. I asked if there was any other way to try it out even just for a couple days especially since Iād have to pay Uber both ways for nothing and he refused to help me. You just lost potentially a several year long membership because youāre running your gym like a club with a bouncer. Youāre supposed to want people to be interested in joining, not turn them away like youāre...
