We stopped here during a Gus Macker basketball tournament, which we didn't know about. It didn't ruin our time here but it did make it a bit harder in general. So finding parking was hard because the streets were closed off. We ended up parking 3 blocks away from the park in the neighborhood but the walk wasn't bad. The downside is that all the restrooms were locked due to the tournament and they only had port-a-johns. We walked to the rotary park a few blocks away to change into our swim suits, which had the cleanest restrooms I have ever seen in a park. The beach itself was awesome. It was clean and everyone was friendly. I wish we would have known that it is okay to bring beer to the beach because we would have brought a cooler of beer with us from home. Instead we stopped by a gas station and picked up a few tall boys to enjoy while sun bathing on the beach. Our whole point to the trip was to go visit the lighthouse, which was awesome.
My assumption is that on normal weekends the beach restrooms are open to the public and that parking is easier. We are looking forward to coming back to Ludington another time, it really seems like a...
Read moreStearns Park is the place to be in Ludington during the summer. Watch the Fourth of July fireworks from the Beautiful white-sand beach, have a picnic at one of the many picnic tables or take a stroll with the with your loved ones on the North breakwall out to the lighthouse. Shuffleboard courts, mini-golf, paddle board & kayak rentals, and a skate park are just few of the things you and the family can do while you're visiting. Restrooms & vending booths are conveniently located at the North and South ends of the park. Every summer, the park hosts the Annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament, which brings thousands of people to the Ludington area to compete. At the center of the park is the new sculpture garden honoring our local veterans, with a special tribute to a local hero, Medal of Honor recipient, William R. Charette. Stearns Park also ends any summer evening with a perfect front-row seat for eating a World Famous House of Flavors ice cream cone while watching the Badger car ferry sail off into the sunset. Don't miss this park during your visit...
Read moreOur family vacation for 10 included a visit to Stearns Park along the shore of Lake Michigan at the town of Luddington. The long beach was very clean and included plenty of trash barrels . The weather was perfect; not too hot nor too windy. The little boys seemed to be out a good distance in the water, but it turns out it was fairly shallow. There were few waves to push them around and everyone who went into the lake remarked how solid the lake bottom was and the noticeable lack of rocks or debris. There are public bathrooms and showers. They are far from a luxurious experience, but they got the job done. There is also a snack bar, but it wad closed on the day we were there. There is alot of parking adjacent to the beach. It is not too far to the water: Maybe 100-150 feet. It's one way through the lot which keeps everybody moving. The main drag through Luddington is filled with quaint shops including places to get food. Make sure to take an umbrella and chairs. If you forget something, Walmart is close. Have a great...
