Tl;dr at bottom
In a restaurant, it’s tacky to talk about what bills are due and how much they are less than two feet from a customer during the beginning of the lunch rush. I felt really uncomfortable with all the paperwork splayed out.
If you are 35 and under, eat outside, it’s trendy. If you are 36 or over, eat inside, it is the plaid wallpaper, chipping paint, and lace from your favorite hometown diner.
I used to love this place growing up, it hurts to see them cut corners. I know that places tend to cut corners with the pandemic, but microwaving a sandwich is pretty rough. Cheese only turns to liquid oil when it is microwaved. Which of course then soaks the entire bottom bun. Putting sliced lunch meat on a griddle dries it out, which is why plain sliced turkey is usually on a club sandwich. I appreciated the toasted bun, but it was completely flattened. Sides were really tiny and kinda rough. Also, we felt pretty sick after eating.
Tl;dr: get a water and a salad and eat outside. We felt sick after. But really just go to Old Hamlin, for the same price the food is way better and has more charm for the same...
Read moreI loved Cafe 106. The staff was welcoming and very attentive. I was greeted with a genuine smile, seated quickly, and a menu and my drink order came moments later. I had the best cup of Cream of Asparagus soup as an appetizer. Perfect consistency and the flavor was just what I expect from a good cup of soup that has locally grown asparagus in it. Yummmm! For breakfast, I got their popular Janet’s Stuffed Hashrooms with two over medium eggs and a side of raisin toast. I added fresh mushrooms and a side of homemade sausage gravy. I was pleasantly surprised to see the generous portion, including the thick slices of toast. It was delicious and totally satisfied my craving for some great comfort food! Kudos to the Chef!! I can't wait to come back the next time...
Read moreStopped in this morning for breakfast. Place was full except for the large table in the middle. There were 4 of us, yet they would not seat us and said it would be at least 10 minutes. I did not bother to let them know that we are in Ludington for the week of July 4 for the last 36 years and usually eat breakfast there at least twice during our stay. Instead, we just said no thanks and headed down to Brenda’s Harbor Cafe. In less than 10 minutes, we were seated with coffee. I guess I don’t understand a business model that would let customers walk away when there is a table but they are keeping it open in case a larger group comes in. Needless to say, this is my last time I will...
