Does a thing know when it's broken?
I've seen many ruins on this trip. Such is the nature of the lighthouse, the epoch of an eon always long gone and wrong for still being and wrong for being no more. But no lighthouse has ever blamed itself for being a lighthouse, and I live to heap guilt on myself that it may someday blossom into a better life and a better world so well suited for me that I no longer worry whether I'm driving the right way on the right road or the left way on the wrong road or through the back end of a drive-through or back behind the throughway at the beginning of a fly-by.
How would it know?
I wonder if something may sit here forever, shining light and making that which the light hits real and making that which it cannot reach strange beyond belief but still something to touch. I wonder if I could find a light to shine on myself. I wonder if I have lost that strange talent of reality in the dusk of doubt. I wonder if I have sacrificed it without knowing. I wonder if the 7-Eleven does room service.
Will it matter?
As Constable always says,
I wonder, were these words to wend their ways Around the reality of my mind, Would there rely a place in my will to Commit to seeking what I ought to find? And were I to find full the way and clear The trail of languid song rerouting far From reason but too near to run away, Were reasons yet enough to quickly mar Their codes, would long-learned souls who earned enough Have saved it long enough to...
Read moreThe Luna Pier Lighthouse area offers beautiful views of Lake Erie and a quiet place to relax, walk, or enjoy the scenery. Parking is $2 an hour, and enforcement is strict—make sure to pay and watch your time or you could end up with a ticket. The area features a small pier you can walk out on, public restrooms, and a nearby playground for kids. Pets are not allowed on the beach, which is something to keep in mind before visiting.
The beach itself is small but clean and offers a peaceful spot with a lovely view. The lighthouse is interesting to see, and it adds to the charm of the area. However, the strong smell of dead fish along the shoreline and several large fish nearby were hard to ignore. Also, although signs clearly state no glass is allowed, broken glass was scattered across parts of the area—so be careful where you step. Despite those issues, it’s still a nice little stop to stretch your legs, enjoy the lake breeze, and snap...
Read moreIt was lovely! Luna Pier on lake Eerie has lots to offer in terms of tourist experience. The town was a little out of the way but cute and the pier was beautiful. We even got to see a bald eagle in action.
The beach itself is actually mostly broken shells ground down to fine particles but still a little sharp, so bring shoes that can get wet. And maybe a cloth to wipe the bits off with.
Otherwise the water is warm and the scenery is worth the trip.
You do have to pay for parking but that just makes sense. The town is small and clearly the parking toll is going into maintaining the area for visitors. Pay it and you should be fine.
We put our parking ticket in our windshield so it could be...
