This is an amazing place tucked away in downtown Lynchburg. Took my 4 year old for the day and it really overdelivered! The greeting staff was friendly and helpful. They gave us a rundown of how the place works before we went in. We also since we have a child on WIC received an admission fee of just $3 each. This would be a great place for those who foster children. It would take a long time to describe what's on all 4 floors, but there is something for most ages and interests. It is extremely educational while also being just plain fun. My son's favorite parts were the golf ball room where they use the balls on all sorts of ramps to launch the balls into buckets. He also loved the construction site zone. But his absolute favorite was about a 25ft long model of the James River complete with running water where kids could launch boats down the river, dam up the water and even make it rain. There was a section to learn music and perform, an acting stage with costumes, a painting room amongst a ton more. There is also a section just for those 3 and under to get away from older kids. The place was spotless clean with tons of space. There would never be a time you felt congested or cramped right on top of people. There were also employees stationed all over to help, answer questions or quietly clean up activities. There is a massive climbing zone built into the middle that runs from the rth floor all the way down complete with slides, zip lines and tubes. The stairs to each floor magically light up different colors as you climb, but if you have mobility issues there are elevators in the middle to take you to each floor. We have been to our share of Discovery Museum type places, but this has been my favorite. You would expect to pay a lot more for all you get. They are closed Sunday thru Tuesday....
Read moreAmazement Square is a great place to bring the kids, but do you have to charge the parents?
Amazement square, if I'm not mistaken, is a converted old building (warehouse) that was transformed into a 4 floor activity, educational and entertaining kids dream land. Spread out over the several floors is a vast array of things for kids to play with, on and inside of. There's a place for every child's imagination here. Whether they're the next Einstein, Picasso or Indiana Jones, Amazement square has something to entertain them while teaching all the while.
Though there have been several updates through the years, I would like to see more changes take place. Some of the activities have been worn down a little and though it's still fun to play around with the many stations and activities, they are starting to show their age.
My biggest quandary with the place is that they charge the parents as well as the child. Now, if this was the Boston Museum of Science, I could understand it, but I find that there is little for the parents to do after a few trips. Of course it's fun to interact with your kids when they are creating a ball drop maze or launching golf balls down the wooden roller coaster like ramp, but give our wallets a break. The place feels genuinely focused on kids, the way it should be, but at least discount the price for parents. When you bring a family of 4, you're going to drop $40. That's not cheap in this economy for an already struggling family that just wants their kids to have a good life.

Read moreI absolutely recommend a membership! It is so fun. Each level is something different and special. They have things that change to keep it interesting for the kids! There is learning and there is a ton of fun. It checks all the boxes. It’s always clean and the staff do such a beautiful job. The staff honestly I can’t say enough good things about. On so many occasions members of the staff went above an beyond to make my experience perfect. They take their jobs very seriously. Each one of the ladies at the front desk is always so kind and helpful! Josh is just a staple of the whole place. Incredible person that is always smiling and he is always willing to help in any way he can! ms. Kari had gone above and beyond for us so many times!! I could honestly list out so many of the ladies there that have done little thing when we go to be helpful or to just make the experience better for me and my family. I have never been to a children’s museum were the staff blew me away every single visit. They keep it professional but also personal on some level to make your experience special. They staff are so good at interacting with parents and staff. I know that other feel the same way. I witness everytime I go a staff member going above and beyond for...
