Quaint historical venue. There was ample parking available nearby on the night I attended the show. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They have an affordable concession stand that provides a variety of adult beverages, as well as soda, candy, and the best popcorn around. The bathrooms are so well maintained that they made me feel like I was in a posh hotel restroom. Different levels are easily accessible by wide staircases or by elevators. Most of the shows are reasonably priced, and because of the size of the theater, it offers one an intimate, up close, and personal experience! The only flaws that I feel bad about bringing up is that there are some seats that have blind spots during certain performances, and the side boxes , although costing more, don't give you a good perspective of the stage. You can actually see the rigging, performers, and workers between the curtins, which can be somewhat distracting. All in all, it's a terrific place to enjoy local and...
Read moreThere's not many options for local art and performance events in Lynchburg so I'm grateful for the Academy Center. I've been to a couple of plays and charity events and have been satisfied with the Academy Center. Most recently, I went to the 2018 hungry bowls with my mom. The bowl donations from local artists were beautiful.
There are few issues, however. Parking is difficult and the door is in an awkward location. Seating for plays are cramped and uncomfortable. The hungry bowls event was poorly organized this year. Three lines snaked around the packed room with no guide ropes. The bowls were almost gone by the time we arrived and we got there 15 minutes after opening. After waiting in the second line to get our bowls, mom and I left because it was overcrowded and we didn't want to wait another half an hour to get food.
We were happy to donate to charity but were disappointed by the lack of organization. Tip: bring a seat cushion if you plan to...
Read moreFor my first experience here it was AMAZING the performance was spectacular “Step Afrika” if you ever get a chance to see them DO IT! They engaged the audience the entire time, they had you leaving feeling like you were a part of the experience! The theater is gorgeous my first time being there and very impressed for a smaller city theatre as I’m from NY I’ve seen many this was very welcoming it was the perfect temperature the seats are comfortable and I’m a larger girl so that’s very nice! Popcorn was perfectly buttery and perfectly salted nice and freshly popped. They serve alcohol! And they don’t water the drinks down typical pricing $8-$12/$15 very clean building everyone who worked there was super nice. Please go see a show you will enjoy yourself definitely a part of the...
