Federal House Antiques — Attraction in Lynchburg

Can’t say enough about Federal House Antiques! We stopped in to browse, not looking for anything in particular and walked out with two framed Washington lithographs, a late Georgian English tea caddy, early andirons, some Dutch Delft trading beads, and more. Jimmy has some excellent English Colonial pieces, many tilt-top tables, beds, side and dining chairs, fireplace implements, books, textiles, and so much more that is perfect for our late 18th century farmhouse. He is very knowledgeable and was happy to speak with us about anything we asked, and worked with us on pricing as well. This shop has been added to our “must return to” list, and I can see a trip to Lynchburg happening again soon! It seems that more and more antique shops I discover these days offer a variety country rustic and completely mediocre items which just happen to be from a generation or two ago. Items discovered in Grandma's basement and brought in to generate some cash. Federal House Antiques on Main Street in Lynchburg, VA is like walking in to a museum where the items are for sale and can be yours. The first time I walked in here, I had a great conversation with the owner and he graciously gave me an extensive overview on Sandwich glass works. We stopped by this store about a half hour before their posted closing time. The door was locked, but there was a sign saying to please ring the bell, so we did. The owner came down and let us in. He was very nice, and knowledgeable about antiques in general and the items in his store. I purchased two items, which he gave me a great price on. He was kind enough to take great care in packaging my items so that they would not get damaged on my way back to Tennessee.
