Nice, flat paved trail with downtown trailhead/parking and another parking access area in Amherst County. I’ve been walking, running, and biking here over 25 years, since my children were babies/toddlers. The trail is just under three miles and shaded much of the way, so even my elementary and preschool aged children could bike it. I’d pack snacks/drinks in the bike trailer along with the baby and we’d have a little picnic at the other end before the return trip. Read moreThis is the thing about Lynchburg that I love SOOOO much the history of the city!!!! Being able to go walking for natural exercise in my older age middle years instead of wasting unnecessary money on a gym membership is spot on... The irony and thought of being able to get beautiful views and pictures at the riverfront location that they designed was amazing... I love almost any and everything there is to live about this landmark... The history is truly amazing... The scenery is completely stunning... The walking mile markers are totally genius... The people out and about walking on the trails are Suprisingly friendly... In conclusion the workout and healthy lifestyle is shocking...

It should be completed sometime in March. This is a pretty flat trail (definitely the flattest in Lynchburg), and is about 3 miles to the end. A few good photo ops, the trail runs adjacent to the James River. Can be crowded at times, and parking can be an issue (though that’s rare). You’ll see walkers, runners, cyclers, dogs, skateboarders, and even the occasional unicyclist. Be prepared to spot some wildlife, especially deer! This place (and the adjoining Backwater Creek Trail) is a true asset...
