The stately Madera County Courthouse now serves as the museum for local history. The Historical Society maintains the museum by visitor donations, purchases of books on subjects about local activities, and proceeds from sponsored events. The annual Christmas Tree decoration and other seasonal events are some of these events.
The local chapter of E Clampus Vitus recently created a monument to Madera's hard rock gold mining history. This display provides a realistic presentation of an ore cart within an underground mine. Tools used for underground mining and related equipment also are on display.
