Madison Lyric Stage — Attraction in Madison

Saw their production of Spring Awakening on July 23. It was an amazing performance! I wasn’t sure of what to expect with a small theater space but the cast and crew of the show put on a stellar performance!

My only reason for the slightly lower rating is that they are cash only for refreshments during intermission. Either a card reader/contactless payment option or a message in the email when purchasing tickets that refreshments are cash only would solve this issue. I would have brought cash...

I attended the Friday performance of All That Jazz, and was captivated by Squishy, entranced by the spittin' essence of Joel Grey, serenaded with a spirited version of the song Cabaret (should be the post-covid life anthem) and led to decadence by a narrator who recalled the glory days of slinky dancers in black and bowler hats. My seat neighbor, Betsy, and I sighed in reminiscence over times we recalled when the heart beat quick and hot as the spotlights on the Broadway stage....

So we left Sweeney Todd at intermission. The actor who played Sweeney Todd couldn’t be bothered to learn his lines and spent the ENTIRE first act reading his lines while staring at a screen hanging from the ceiling. He didn’t interact with the other actors. I was frankly insulted that he had such disregard for the audience who paid more than $50.00 per ticket to come out and support...
