I just saw my first movie in the newly renovated Madison Cinema, and let me tell you it was a wonderfully, pleasant experience. I went to see the new Dr Strange movie and I’m glad I went here over the crazy populated and oversold Cinemark. Beautifully renovated physical space, bright and comfortable. The staff were so polite and attentive and genuinely seemed happy to be there. Excellent concessions and prices I would expect. No surprises there.
The theater was lovely. I remember seeing movies here when I was younger and it has been lovingly rehabilitated. The screen was crystal clear and tack-sharp with bright and vibrant colors. Not as big as the chain theaters, but offered the same if not better visual clarity. The sound system was full and dynamic, only complaint was that with our movie it could have been a tad louder, but overall sounded top notch, it doesn’t change my feelings. I will be back for sure. Purchasing reserved seats online like the big theaters was a great addition to have for a local cinema.
I highly encourage you to spend your money here. Support the local business, this is a gem. I saw people posting reviews complaining about the loss of the classic films of the old “Arts Cinema” name and without saying it, feeling like it sold out a bit. Just keep in mind, you have to appeal to the masses too, the reason this place will survive is because it’s offering the new exciting movies the big theaters who sell out, do. I’m sure those type of artistic movies will filter through in due time, as well. Anyway, I digress. I’m so happy to have this location and will be back for...

The screen is small, which is fine, but the safety lights that run the aisle were beyond bright. Blue light was projected everywhere, somewhat blinding, with audience faces lit up, and half of the screen was literally bathed in blue. I'm not exaggerating; one half of the movie screen was constantly washed out.
There was also a very loud generator noise that was quite obvious during the quiet parts. It wasn't obvious at first, but when the movie went still, all you heard was a loud whirring.
We had to leave after just 10 minutes. It wasn't worth the money. The staff was very courteous and were beyond accommodating in providing a refund. I felt bad to ask for one, but the blue lights and generator sound were that bad. Again, staff was excellent and understanding.
Very disappointing. as we heard great thing about this theater. I hope they do much better...
Read moreA great cinema on a charming strip of Madison, CT. On what otherwise could have been a chaotic viewing of Wicked, the staff really left a good impression on me by making it absolutely clear that this was NOT a sing-along viewing. Though my party and I only managed to get seats near the front (typically not optimal), the reclining seats still managed to help us get comfortable during a nearly three-hour long viewing. I would absolutely come here again for any film screening. The next time you want to see a film, consider skipping the big multiplex, as I would highly recommend supporting a charming, local place such as Madison Cinemas...
