UPDATE I see that Planet Fitness replied to this review below and my response to their response is that the Hackettstown location DM did contact me with a belligerent attitude, he gave no apology and told me that that is their policy, even though I told him that when I called corporate, they told me that no such policy exists. In fact, the woman in corporate even pointed me in the direction of where it states the rules and regulations on the Planet Fitness website and nowhere does it say that the parent must present the childās birth certificate. She actually apologized to me that I was given such treatment and could not believe Aldo gave me such trouble. Furthermore, Jim, the DM, was so cavalier and condescending that I told him I will take it up with his superior. To which he didnāt seem to care. I will also add that I emailed the owners of this particular location the day it happened and still have not heard from them. Canāt say Iām surprised. I will never sign up for a Planet Fitness membership ever again nor will I ever recommend them. I will happily drive past on my way to their competitors. What poor customer service. Such simple acts like courtesy and respecting a paying customer would have made all the difference.
Have had a membership at the Hackettstown location since it opened and went there today to bring my 13 yr old to work out with me and wanted to purchase a day pass. The manager insisted I present her birth certificate (like who carries around their kidās birth certificate) and I told him I didnāt have it with me. He pretty much was saying that he didnāt trust that I was being honest with him. I asked for the dmās contact number and he told me he couldnāt give it to me. I asked for a corporate contact and he told me to look online. When I asked who owned this particular gym he told me corporate owned it which I knew was just an excuse. Told him he was losing a couple members bc of his attitude and he didnāt care. He was the most rude manager I have ever encountered. And to doubt the honesty of a paying customer is the bottom of customer service. Absolutely horrible! Went to work out at Retro Mt. olive afterwards. THEY know how to treat their clients! Will never go back to Planet...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIn this age of online hacking, scams and financial thievery, YOU'RE welcome to hand over your personal bank account info to PLANET FITNESS (?!/bless your soul) but I would strongly advise against it. As a past member (prior to moving from another state), was told, "we need two forms of payment, an auto payment from a bank acct and, a credit card backup. Man, talk about lack of trust for $15/mo. Oh, they'd "make an exception for Black Card members." So you DO or do NOT waive the bank acct auto withdrawal?! Let's only forgo the rules for someone willing to shell out $25+/mo. Anyhoo... that's a dealbreaker for me, plus while speaking with the (idk, manager/owner?), Katie after expressing my thoughts on that lack of member trust, she HUNG UP on me! Now THAT's what I call professionalism! Well done Katie! After you take some refresher courses on how to respond to a potential customer, (or ANYONE, for that matter) you may want to get addl training for Andrea and Justin (asst manager), neither one of which knew your "rules", necessitating my three attempts to get a simple answer I should've been provided with the first time I stopped in. GOOD LUCK folks... treadmills and other machines are JAMMED into such a small area (so much for personal space) and I'd check my bank acct on the regular to ensure you've not been robbed of all your hard earned cash! And potential Black card members... don't give up your bank routing/acct info if you don't have to. Better yet, find yourself another gym. **UPDATED REPLY TO āownerā (or whoever left the canned response⦠yes, I read the same verbatim answer to another reviewer)⦠Youāre directing me to the locationās manager?? DID YOU READ MY REVIEW?! Iāve ZERO interest in returning to PF and speaking with your āmanagerā, Katie who is an obnoxious and egregious example of how customer service and professionalism matter less than the ego of someone given a title⦠at a local-yocul, gym in northwest NJ⦠really?! You ALL need crash courses in how to respond appropriately! PLEASE DO NOT REPLY AGAIN AS IāM...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate 4/7/23: The gym has fixed its equipment issues. Machines do break down quicker at this gym for some reason. But, they've improved on getting them fixed quicker. Staff is great! One thing about this gym, and most Planet Fitness, there are so many teenagers at the weights. This adds to the crowd meter for sure, so the app doesn't capture the crowded environment. Nothing against the crowd, just realize the app is not always right and you may need to adjust gym times to get a time efficient workout completed.
Update 11/13/22: after 6 months or so, the gym appears to be breaking down. Machines are out of order and leaks coming from the roof (which closed the pull up and kettlebell area). It has taken a long time to get these issues resolved. Hope the issues are resolved soon. This is not a good look for a gym that recently opened.
1st Post: I like the gym. It is a bit smaller than the one in Rockaway, NJ. I do wish they had a stretching area. The stretching is combined with all the ab machines, therefore having limited area to stretch. Not a deal breaker. I like the hybrid tanning and red light booth. It is good to use the app and find the best times that the gym is not crowded. It doesn't get way crowded but if you enjoy freedom to use machines/weights, look for those times on the app and they are fairly accurate. Enjoy...
