Learn moreGreat tour and the grounds are beautiful. The lady at the ticket booth was rude. We had checked in online prior to arriving and she said we needed to check in there as well. No problem but don’t need to get upset about it. Beware if you have anyone in your party who is disabled. We had my sister who is in a wheelchair with us on this excursion.
There is no restroom where you pick up the trolley. We were told to go to the gas station. There is a bathroom in one of the buildings once you arrive into pigeon key, but there is no ramp to get into the building. There are three different sets of stairs to gain entry into the one building. It would not be hard to build a small Ramp. The bathroom itself is large enough to fit a wheelchair but there are no grab bars available and if you put any weight on the sink it was about to rip out of the wall.
One of the smaller buildings had a lift to go inside but the lift appeared broken and was rusted out in the bottom. Even the gift shop not accessible. In 2024, I would hope this would not be the case. Such a beautiful place, it’s a shame not all...
Read moreWe had a lovely day on Pigeon Key! I had visited 30 years ago as a student and wanted to share the island with my family. We chose to ride the train to the island to capitalize on our day. The 20 min ride was comfortable and fun - with spectacular views! Once to the island we were greeted by Allyson, our wonderful tour guide! Her informative presentation was relaxed and fun, combining key elements of island history while keeping us entertained. After about 40 minutes, we were set off to explore the island. Beautifully maintained, it brought back so many memories and we created new ones as a family! One of the highlights was the animal feeding in the ocean pool - my daughter loved hearing the “slurp” sound as she fed the nurse sharks. We loved seeing the birds, hermit crabs and other wildlife too. We could have spent all day on the island - so picturesque and relaxed. Just a short trip back and our day was complete!
Tips: bring your own water bottles and sunscreen. Wear or bring suits if you want to get in the water. I wish we had and could have explored the rocks and coral around the...
Read moreI’ve been driving past here for years. It was kind of like a fly over state, saw it heading south, always wondered.
Staying in Cudjoe, I had to.
The online tickets and waiver are awesome, so 2023. Arrived at the visitors center and by-passed all the spur of the moment customers. Thanks for that.
The greeting at the train was prompt, seating was fine, it’s a “train”. The train, lol, I think it’s a Ford 350 tucked under there, she moves. No issue.
Get your waving arm ready, everyone waved to us. I put this waving in the same category as stadium waves, nope not doing it. Curmudgeon?
Good view, saw some rays, nice 2 mile ride.
Met our tour guide, Ross, on the island. He did a great job, it’s American Industrial history. A quick tour of the 5 acres, interesting. When youre there, take pause and think of the low paid workers, hard core.
It was interesting, only thing I’d complain about is the free time, after the talk you’ve an hour to wait for the train. Find a spot, buy a water, $2, chillax.
Well...
