Marion Union Station is a very interesting historical landmark, The building is pretty well preserved and if you visit, you are very likely to see multiple trains passing by. This place is extremely interesting, especially if you enjoy learning about or watching railroads. You should be aware, if you are planning on being outside to watch trains pass or while trains are passing, you will likely want some form of ear protection. Trains pass very close to the station and are extremely loud. You can also choose to stay inside when trains are passing (assuming the station is open). Since the building is no longer in active use, there is some decay, but that is to be expected from what is currently a historical structure. The building is filled with lots of old railroad equipment, which is pretty interesting. The most interesting part is the old interlocking tower. If you are able to visit when the interlocking tower is open, I definitely recommend going up there. They have the tower configured so that you can use it like it was still in operation. All the signals and switches work, and trains can be simulated on the track by employees. You will probably have to ask an employee to help you, but it is really cool to see...

Read moreGreat mid-sized passenger station (now a museum) that once served the east-west Erie Lackawanna & New York Central lines, and the north-south Norfolk and Western/Pennsylvania and C&O lines. Even with the EL yard abandoned to the west, there are still plenty of trains that pound the diamonds on all lines, with the steps of the relocated AC Tower giving a great vantage point. Today CSX handles the former EL/NYC and C&O, and NS the former N&W/PRR. AC Tower, a marvel in its day, is occasionally open for demonstrations and a caboose and model railroad is also featured. A great place for railroaders...
