Bought tickets to take our three year old grandson to the monster truck show. We knew we wouldn't be able to do much else at the fair because of the rain, but he was so excited to see the trucks. We drove an hour to get there because the tickets said "rain or shine". Sat in the grandstands with several other people. Shortly after the show was to start, another patron showed up and told us that the show had been cancelled and the fair would not provide him a refund. He was told to come back for the evening show (based on lack of truck photos on their facebook page, I expect that the evening show was cancelled as well). That did not work for us or many people around us as we had small children and/or prior commitments. We later learned that the show had been cancelled before we even entered the main gates. Our tickets specifically said that they were for the show. We should have been notified at that time that the show had been cancelled. There should have been signs, a person, or ANY kind of notification as you entered the grandstand area. And finally, when a ticket says rain or shine and the show is cancelled, a refund should be offered. As we were leaving my husband checked online and it said that he fair was closed and opened again at 9:00 am the next morning, yet they were still taking money from people coming through...
Read moreHow can they improve? Actually keep their word and hold the event. I called this morning and was told the monster truck event for 2 PM would be held even with the rain so we bought tickets. We live 2 hours away in Rhinelander. There was no thunder, no lightning, only rain. I could understand canceling for lightning but not rain. My 4 year old loves monster trucks and was really looking forward to seeing them. We drove four hours total for nothing. My husband has to work tonight so there was no way we could do a 7 PM show, assuming one even gets held with the thunderstorms forecasted for later. They should offer a refund. Just saying "oh come back for the possible later show that may not even be held later" when your husband has to get back to Rhinelander two hours away for work doesn't cut it. On top of that, we wouldn't get back home until almost midnight, which is ridiculous for a toddler. They could have at least offered a partial refund. We showed up, rain or shine, as the website says. Keep your word and put the show on or...
Read moreAlways nice to go to the fair with the grand kids. To see the fun and excitement they have on the various rides, doing various activities, playing the games, seeing and touching the animals. Eating fair food is always fun because your only chance is at the fair once a year. The free entertainment of singers and performers along with seeing ducks, pigs and goat races are just excellent things to do giving you added fun value for the price of admission. Observing the different people in attendance and visiting with friends that you bump into is always good. The weather was great and the price is right for entrance into the fair. You can spend as much or as little as you want but you still will leave with a smile on your face and always have a good time at the Central Wisconsin State Fair...
