Central Cafe — Restaurant in Marshfield

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. Last year we stopped at the Central Cafe (we don't live in Marshfield) and it stuck in our memory as being really good, so this year, when we were back in Marshfield, and trying to decide where to get lunch, we stopped there again. We had been at Denny’s in Rothschild a week ago and the food and service had been so terrible. The Central Cafe was the complete opposite. In fact there wasn't anything to complain about. The waitress was prompt, nice and polite. The food came fast and hot. The sandwiches and soup were excellent. The portions were ample and they didn't skimp on anything like many restaurants do. They refilled our glasses, including my water (which many restaurants fail to do). They removed plates, asked us how our food was and re-filled my coffee cup. I'm sure they must have their off days, but compared to many restaurants and staff now days, they are the best we’ve seen in a long time. The whole staff seemed to want to make the customer happy. My only very small constructive criticism is to make sure the oil is hot enough so the onion rings don’t soak up so much oil. est place we have eaten...

We have been to this café and I had given it 5 stars, but my opinion has changed. My husband and I had stopped for lunch in the summer of 2022. My husband ordered a melt & fries which he said was good. I ordered a teriyaki chicken sandwich and soup. My sandwich came without any teriyaki on it. I tried to convey this to the waitress. I kept saying there wasn’t any teriyaki on it and she kept saying I got the teriyaki sandwich. She didn’t have much English and I couldn’t get her to understand. Finally I asked for a manager and she wasn’t much better but finally they brought me a cup of teriyaki sauce that I could spread on the sandwich. We had other problems as well, all because of a language barrier. The food was still good so we tried it again this summer (we don’t live in town). We had difficulty ordering because of the language barrier and subsequently seemed to be ignored. The waitress didn't check on us at all (no coffee refills, soda refills , how was your food, etc and it wasn't busy). I don't think we will try this place again. We love stopping here when we’re in the area. The food is homemade and dynamite! The servers were really friendly and professional. The food comes really quickly and served with a smile. It’s got a cozy atmosphere in the restaurant and a laid back feel. We really like that they have ketchup on the tables here. That’s a really popular thing in Canada but not so much in the States. We also have a way different version of rye bread but I like the marble bread you guys in Wisconsin call rye. It’s a great place to take the family. The deserts and pies are all made from scratch.
