I didn’t think my first full concept would be inside a Holiday Inn off I-81 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. But six weeks later, The Wren & Rye opened—and it felt like something cracked open in me that I didn’t even know was closed. I built this one from the ground up. The brand, the menu, the systems, the design, the voice, the vibe. Every detail. Every decision. Every long-ass day. There were moments I doubted everything—quietly, but fully. Would people get it? Was I doing too much? Was I doing enough? Even now, with the lights on and the team rolling, the imposter syndrome creeps in. But then I walk in the door and see what we made—and I remember I didn’t get lucky. I got clear. I worked. I led. And I fucking built it. Dixit and the Twilight Hospitality team gave me room to go for it. Michael Tipps and Dave Foss showed up in ways I’ll never be able to explain without getting weirdly emotional about it. Support like that isn’t easy for me to accept. But they gave it freely, and I felt it. Chef Paul Reilly brought the kind of quiet confidence to the food that makes you feel something without trying too hard. James Lombardino’s cocktail program is layered, unexpected, and exactly what this place needed. Sierra and Carson at Plus Collective made the space look and feel like what I saw in my head at 3am. And Jason Sisson captured all of it—truthfully, soulfully, beautifully. We did this on no sleep, all instinct, too much caffeine, and a gospel-preaching man with stuffed pigs who joined us late night in the bar. That’s a real sentence. I lived it. I’m sore. I’m fried. I’m proud as hell. The Wren & Rye isn’t perfect. It’s not supposed to be. It’s intentional. It’s got bite. It’s got soul. And it’s mine. This is what I’m meant to do. And I’m just getting started. #maverktheory #wedtvirginia #thewren&rye

Very clean and modern hotel. The front desk area was a little bit in disrepair, but I don't think it was a big deal. They seemed to have everything under control as far as their construction project goes. We showed up at about 7:00 p.m. with no reservation. We were checked in by a very helpful person at the registration desk named Jen. She got us into 2 rooms because we had 6 people and we didn't want to try and cram into one room. We were fortunate to be able to take advantage of the government rate which lessened the total of the rooms by about $100. When we got to our rooms, they were very clean and everything looked in order. The kids immediately got ready to go to the pool and within an hour, they were swimming. They said how nice the water was and they spent a lot of time during the evening in the pool. One of the kids was disappointed that they did not have a hot tub, but it really didn't matter because the water was so nice in the pool, she really didn't miss the hot tub. We only stayed one night and left early in the morning, so we didn't really have a chance to take advantage of the rest of the facility, but everything that we experienced was very good. I would recommend staying here if you are in the area.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this Holiday Inn and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming, ensuring that my check-in process was smooth and efficient. The room itself was clean and comfortable, providing all the amenities I needed for a relaxing stay. In terms of location, the Holiday Inn was in a prime spot, close to various attractions and amenities. Whether I wanted to explore the local area or simply relax at the hotel, everything was easily accessible. Overall, my stay at the Holiday Inn was wonderful and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient hotel experience.

It was new year eve and a group of adults had our children there to swim and stay all under 7 while visiting a local business to the area. 5 rooms in total. We were yelled at for minding our business and having dinner and drinks while the kids swam. Mind you we also booked for convenience of the restaurant and bar at the hotel but we found out it was closed that evening when we arrived. So no problem, we improvised and ordered DoorDash. We were quietly sitting at the tables watching our kids swim, eating and got yelled at two different times. The worker was literally looking through the restaurant window down into the pool area to see what we were “doing” and would come yell at us for eating. Again, quietly at the tables. He yelled at for the kids making too much noise in the hallways. It was New Year’s Eve and they were excited and playing. We asked if there was somewhere we could take the kids to enjoy New Year’s Eve and were told we were welcome in the lobby but no alcohol was allowed. We were again trying to celebrate new years ever, politely and not out of control at all and he was making our stay very unwelcoming. We tried to let them play in the lobby and he stood there and watched and scolded them for everything they did. Everything we tried to do with the kids the worker was literally watching us just to yell at us. We will never be back and will never recommend this hotel to anyone staying with our extended groups as this hotel is recommended by the organization to all of...

We recently found ourselves in Martinsburg WV faced with a car emergency on a Sunday with no repair shops open until the next morning and pouring rain. We were able to coast off the highway directly into a gas station parking lot but we had no power. Hot. Muggy. Finally got a towing company to come get the car. Also saw a Holiday Inn not far from us but too far to walk. We contacted them with the small hope that they might rescue us. Mr. B. came with a car to the parking lot and my wife loaded our stuff for a ride back to the hotel. I waited for the tow truck and he was able to drop me off at the hotel as well. The front desk was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had no idea how long the repair was going to take so we tried to make a reservation for Monday night as well. They were completely booked. But they went overboard and found us a room if we needed it. The hotel restaurant wasn’t very busy but the waitress was bubbly and gregarious. The food was tasty and relatively inexpensive. We called the repair shop on Monday morning and they said the repair would be done by 10:00 am that day. Again Mr. B drove me to the repair shop to pick up the car. He didn’t have to, but he did anyway.

What an incredible manager and staff. They saw our needs and did everything they could to help meet those needs. And just to be clear - staff reflects management. These folks obviously have an experienced empathetic manager....
