South African Food Shop — Attraction in Matthews

Negative experience with their online Correspondence:

I wrote them a message asking when there would be biltong available, as it was stated they are sold out. I wrote, "when will their next shipment be ready" as in when will THEY be able to ship and I also asked if they could give me a price quote on it. Well, I got a very rude response from a woman named Colleen, saying firstly they don't "buy biltong" and secondly that they "don't have to tell me a price before hand". I was a little surprised at the abruptness so I wrote back saying that was rather unkind and unprofessional as a response and proceeded to explain I meant that I would like to purchase from them, and that I was only looking for a ballpark figure.. After that I received another response (from Colleen), even more rude than the first saying that 1) they were "in no way being unkind, that it was my interpretation" and 2) that "I obviously meant shipment as in they buy it". Then she proceeded to block me from responding.. WOW, I cannot believe the audacity of that, so rude and presumptuos! I cannot recommend this place to anyone, after such conduct and childishness. Instead of apologizing and trying to retain me as a customer I got attitude and told how I was "wrong". Nope, no thanks. I don't need that kind of treatment from someone who obviously doesn't have a clue about customer service or...

My father from South Africa asked if I could pick up spices, meat, wine, sauces…etc. from the South African Shop for thanksgiving week when the family is all in town. I arrived at the store location right at 4:00 PM on Friday and two male employees were still in the store. As I approached the door (with another customer) the employee shut the blinds in our faces and locked the door as I attempted to open it. I was going to purchase a lot of items at the shop, but the man refused my business and made it seem like he didn’t care. My father mentioned that it occurred to him before and described the same man doing it. It is rather unfortunate because there is not another store in the area, but I will travel to a further location and will never return to this establishment again. A few years back I used to enjoy coming to this store with my uncle coz it was so exciting to see the food from back home and the store keeper was pleasant…..engaging with the people in the store was amazing coz we shared memories from home. I stopped by a few days ago and there was a lady who has bad customer service/ or just cold…. it’s as if she doesn’t want to be there or talk to customers. This happened last year as well when I stopped by and there was a man who was so cold.
