This place is run by all volunteer community members. I would definitely call ahead and see when there will be someone there. Also this is Hāna so if you are a tourist ask a local worker at your hotel or place you are staying and they probably know someone they can call and tell you.
While not big it has a lot of interesting artifacts and a wealth of information about Hāna and its people. The big thing to check out if you do go is the HALE, aka HAWAIIAN THATCHED STRUCTURES. The person currently in charge of reconstructing is a Hawaiian master builder. No I'm not taking fake grass shacks but the real deal.
