The second I stepped foot on the Island Star and met the captain and deckhands, I knew this was going to be a wonderful trip. The ride was so smooth that one of my family members changed his mind about sailing and already wants to do it again!

They had snorkel gear ready for us once we arrived at a cove. One of the deckhands actually dove into the water to ensure it was a good snorkel spot before we jumped in. He led us on a little snorkeling tour around the reef and helped us identify the fish we saw. When we were done swimming and snorkeling, they had a hot shower, towels, and snacks ready for us. I really appreciated the hot shower!

My family is mostly vegetarian and they were able to accommodate us with delicious food, snacks, and drinks. Weeks after our trip, and I’m still thinking about the fresh fruit platter they had for us.

The highlight of our trip was seeing a pod of dolphins swim up to the boat and play in the wake. They swam beside the boat for several minutes; it almost felt like we were playing with them. I’ve never been that close to dolphins before and it was incredible!

We got married on the Island Star at sunset and it was a perfect evening. Captain Nick and team were extremely accommodating and flexible when it came to creating a custom experience for our group. He even agreed to officiate our ceremony and he did a wonderful job. Melody and Noni were so welcoming, friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout our charter. They went far beyond expectation with food, beverages, and service. Many of the charter boats in Maui are modern catamarans, which are overly branded and commercialized, and seem to rarely have the sails up. The Island Star has authentic charm, modern amenities, and actually sails during charters! I had the pleasure of joining Captain Bryan and Nonni on a five hour snorkel/whale watching excursion the other day. Let me tell you, it could not have been a better day! Our trip was packed with great weather, a very friendly and professional crew, great pu pu platters of teriyaki chicken, crab bruschetta, ahi poke bowl, cheeses and grapes, unbeatable snorkeling where we saw 7 turtles, listened to whales sing and unbelievable whale watching.
