Aloha to all who take the time to read these Google reviews to see if a place is worth your time or not.
My name is Callahan Welsh, nothing special about me. I'm a Maui High School graduate(Class of 2001, #GoSabers!) ...and I am one of Maui's most unfunny Stand-Up Comedians thanks to Cheif Chino LaForge who had an open-mic comedy weekly showing there since Jan. 2021.
And so basically, I have no credibility, buuuuuut I must say, Da Playground definitely lives up to it's name.
The venue is spectacular, and the events Da Playground books is suuuper-duper-coolio! They get big names and up-and-coming bands of all sorts of entertainment coming to this location.
The staff are professional and aloha spirited people.
And so on Thursday, Sept. 19th, I got to witness professional Stand-Up Comedian Greg Wilson destroy the place with laughter. Everyone was laughing so hard, the staff couldn't get drinks out to the customers as everyone was just bust-laughing with joy.(the staff got the drinks out to everyone...but that's a reference in saying Greg was just so powerful in making everyone laugh.)
And then yesterday, Sunday, Sept. 22nd, I got to witness legendary Sister Nancy! Wooooowwweee!...she can put on a show. Her vibrant youth at 63 year's young, rocked the place. What an honor to see her and Greg at this location of Da Playground in Maui, Hawai'i.
I miss performing at Da Playground for open-mic comedy, and hopefully they can have Chino bring it back, but until then, I'd "funnly" recommend everyone to go to Da Playground for fun live entertainment events that suit you.(look at their website for upcoming events.)
From locals to tourist, please have fun(safely) at Da Playground!
Much alohaz, Da Haole from Maui, Callahan Welsh USMC Veteran and Maui's worst Stand-Up...
Read moreCame here to get a midday sip while out running errands. It was about 1pm so the place was empty. We order a couple of drinks, got some free chips and salsa (with yelp check in) and listened to some music.
Pros: The music was really good. They played alot of mash ups between hip hop and rock. Also, they have free arcade games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Lastly, the bartender was super nice and told us how this place has live music on the weekends. So i'll definitely be back for that since I love live music.
Cons: The free chips and salsa that we got with check-in were pretty bland. I also tried a spicy salmon hand roll (same sentiments). We didnt really finish them. The drinks were a short pour. I got a vodka martini and my glass wasnt even full. Typically my martini's are spilling over.
Ultimately, I might go back to experience the live music but I would eat before...
