It’s official, I just had my first happy hour experience at “HAVENS HARBORSIDE FISH & CHOPHOUSE.”
So if anyone ate at this location before this restaurant moved in & did their renovation. You’ll definitely be impressed with their gorgeous, plus clean, ocean side color choices & decor.
We arrived a few minutes into their happy hour & were seated immediately after requesting a table for four. Plus service was fast in the beginning, waters arrived right after menus were dropped. I started with the “PAIA BAY (rumhaven coconut rum, coconut cream, pineapple passion, orange & guava.)” It was a delicious sweet drink & even the cup was cute. My second drink I tried was the “PUAMANA POOLS (beefeater gin, ginger liqueur, pineapple, lime orgeat & absinthe.)” Now that drink was also delicious & I liked that it came with a ginger candy garnish.
As for the Happy Hour Bites I ended up trying the: Chilled black tiger shrimp with ocean vodka cocktail sauce. (The shrimp had a clean presentation & the shrimp were massive.) Spicy ahi poke nachos* with wonton, avo, sea bean, cucumber, ginger relish. (I was actually surprised by how big this plate was considering this was off the happy hour menu. I wasn’t able to eat it all & ended up taking home half.i) NY steak pupu* with cabbage, ginger, scallion & finadene. (This was another dish I was impressed with the amount of food. Definitely filling & absolutely delicious.) Verde fish taco with cabbage, smoked pepper, crema & pico de gallo. (Fish tacos are always a go to for me & omg this one is all about that verde flavor.) Truffle fries with parmesan & parsley. (Always a fun snack & no fries were spared.)
Dining notes: During slower times it’s easier to get VIP service. However when guests start to fill up the remaining empty seats. It left a longer gap between being checked on. So by the time we finished our first round of food & drinks. We didn’t get to order our second round until the table was already cleared.
Also I noticed the happy hour menu didn’t have their name & logo on it. It’s just free advertising when a guest takes a picture to share with their friends & family. Plus I like to have it for my food photos, otherwise I might forget where it came from further down the road.
I’ll definitely need to plan a future lunch & dinner visit. To compare the menus, plus the change in atmosphere for when the sun goes down.
Until next...
Read moreWe were looking for where to enjoy exceptional seafood for lunch while on Maui. We wanted to share an experience with the host of our stay at a quality service and food restaurant.
We were totally pleased with the food, view, atmosphere, service, food and beverages!
Dining near the water at a beautiful table along with the opportunity to meet the owner and hear his story of supporting the community was a premium experience. The decor and the story behind it are so intriguing! Take time to view the wall fish art at the entrance of the incredible octopus over the beverage station near the bar. Both highlight local artists and are exceptional art.
The Aloa Smash Burger is loaded with pickles and grilled onions; it stands so tall one has to open wide to taste it’s fantastic flavors. I recommend the Teriyaki Grilled King Salmon with Market Greens and Havens Mai Tai cocktail - it offers true Maui flavors. Excellent Bloody Mary's!
Another diner in our group had Verde Fish Tacos and found the smoked pepper cream to perfectly balance the flavors with cabbage and herbs. We finished our meal by sharing mango cheesecake; it presents beautifully and tastes superb.
The staff was attentive, very professional, and gave us menu guidance while respecting our conversational space. Always politely available at just the right moment.
Our Maui visit was a weeklong, and this was our favorite dining out moment. Thank you for this great food and dining experience, Havens! We hope to be back! Maui chef Zach Sato gets big applause from us!
They also provide a gluten-free menu and a happy hour menu daily from 3pm-5pm. We found curbside...
Read moreWe were looking forward to dining here on our Maui vacation and arrived for our reservation at 6:30. Still had to wait 15 minutes for our table, even though they weren't packed. The harborside view is as good as advertised and we enjoyed the breeze at our outdoor table. The food was incredible. We started with the Maui Ohana Wagyu Croquettes and the Cast Iron Focaccia. Two Chophouse Filets, Ahi and Scallops were our entrees with a couple of sides. All dishes were excellent. The big problem was the service. Our server was Mick, who apparently has been there a while, but was having an awful night. It took nearly a half hour to get our cocktails after we sat down and he couldn't remember our orders, having to ask us three times each what they were before entering them. On his recommendation we also ordered the Kanpachi Roll, but it never came out and he completely forgot to tell us they were out of it until our main course arrived. To cap it off, we all ordered coffee with our desserts (which, again, were delicious) which he delivered to us ICE cold. Someone had apparently unplugged the coffee machine, but it's something he should have noticed. I lost count of how many pieces of silverware he dropped while we were there. The manager did apologize and comped our desserts, but the damage had been done. Closing time was 9pm, but we were the last table there at 8:45 and got the impression the staff was more concerned about going home. Reading other reviews, it seems our experience was an outlier, but at this price point, poor service just...
