Needed to getmy locs retwisted on a short notice ( for a reasonable price) so I decided on Thursday to make an appointment for Friday. My appt time was 10a which is their exact time of opening. Upon arrival the place was busy. Students going to and fro. A lot of movement and customers arriving all at the same time. The front desk staff was in a zone with everything going on and didn't great or acknowledge me initially at the desk to check in. Eventually one young lady refocused and checked me and another person in. We were instructed to sit and wait in a waiting space past the counter. Several of us were there patiently waiting. The wait was probably 10 minutes. Eventually a student came to the area, announced a name and cheerfully greeted the client she would be servicing. This occurred a few more times before my name was called and I was greeted in the same manner by my student, LAY LAY (LAYLA). I was taken to my chair where Lay Lay did a question assessment about a few things including my time constraints. I wax very impressed by this because I have been to other schools and they didn't check and it became an issue later because I had to leave and didn't get finished. If you have never been serviced at a school understand that these students don't work as fast as licensed service providers so you will be there typically longer that you may be accustomed to. After my assessment I was asked about my service. I showed Lay Lay a picture of the style i wanted an she genuinely replied that she had never done it (loc petals) but that she was pretty sure she could watch a few videos and figure it out. She appeared eager and confident in this. I had done the style on myself so I knew it wasn't too complicated so we proceeded. She also let me know there was a student who was considered the location expert there and she scanned the room for her as said she could discuss with her for tips/pointers. Lay Lay took me to the wash room and can I say that my wash experience with her was GREAT. She shampooed my hair and massaged my scalp in an A++++ manner. It was so relaxing that I wanted to just stay in there and call it a day. But moving on. Back in her chair, I continued my experience and continued to be impressed. Lay Lay had a wonderful sparkly personality that added to the atmosphere. As a student she shared how she loved the culture at that school and I could see and feel the energy she was describing. All the students appeared positive and as packed as that place was, there was a calm atmosphere. The noise level was actually unnoticeable which was surprising. I continued to be impressed by my observations there. While doing my retwist there were a few times I noticed a technique issue and gently gave my input. I have been locked 20+ years and so I know a lil about my hair and retwist. Lol. Once she put me under the dryer I had time to observe more. The place was clean. Students appeared task working on a client or their mannequin. Instructors were floating around the entire time. Once from under the dryer I returned to the chair and Lay Lay informed me that she had been watching videos on the style the whole time I was under the dryer. Her excitement made me feel good. She also reported that she consulted with the "expert" loc student who told her to come get her when she started on my petals. That is also something I observed. The students seemed to work together helping and supporting each other. She said she felt comfortable doing the petals by herself and because it is actually pretty simple we proceeded. A fellow student came over to our area and was talking a little bit with her and observing. Within that conversation she let the young lady know she could assist by passing her rubberbands that were needed. Without hesitation or attitude the young lady obliged. Several students would pass by and give verbal approval on how things were going. I watched in the mirror and things looked as they should. My hair turned out PERFECT. Others agreed. This was a great experience. Thanks Lay Lay!!!!!!!

All in all I have had good experiences with getting my hair done here. I really miss some of the old instructors that are no longer there. They were very energetic and helpful. This last visit I had my hair done by a lovely young lady who shared a lot of her reserve of customers not being happy with the results. Which was understandable since I was her 2nd client. It's ok to engage with the student that are signed to you, it helps to get an understanding of what your experience will be like. Also if the students are uneasy help them by encouraging them to do what they were taught to do or ask them who can they call on to help them out. I do sympathize with my fellow clients that have had burn incidents with the plastic part of those flat irons, it really does hurt. I do think the new instructors need more insight of what their roles are. Thank you

I absolutely love my color job by Angela Hick performed on my vibrant Red transformation. I wasn’t sure if exactly of what direction I wanted to go- and Angie was so patient & knowledgeable in not only my desired look but as well as my hair care concern and product recommendations to maintain my hair’s health and manageability. I would recommend her hands down.

I talked about getting my hair done for weeks looking at all kinds of online hairstyles and color. I finally decide and schedule at the school because it’s Paul Mitchell..,it has to be good. I arrived at 10:00 am and waited 40 minutes for my hair dresser/student to arrive. I show her the style it’s a long layered cut with dark roots and light ends, the instructor comes and proceed to give me a 15 minute lecture on how he could not possibly do this. Granted I just overheard the same conversation earlier when he also said no to another clients color choice. I have had this done before but now all the sudden he was not sure it could be done to my hair and did a color strand test. Great strand test complete...25 minutes later...HE then decides it is not going to work and suggested my only option is to just go black. Okay fine so I don’t get the color I want but I will get the cut. It’s okay I can deal with it. My stylist/student was almost finished with her school so I thought I was in good hands. I kidd you not they must have pick a random girl walking by and put scissors in her hand that morning. She did not know how to comb my hair....hold please...SHE DID NOT KNOW HOW TO COMB MY HAIR! She pulled my hair so bad (and I am not tender headed) I had to tell her several times how much she was hurting me but it fell on deaf ears. She then applies my color to my entire head, forehead and ears. Now I am just sitting there waiting for my color to process. Great it is now noon and it won’t be much longer, I am excited to see the finished result. We go to rinse my hair (which again this has to be her first time how could you possibly mess up rinsing off hair) she sprays me in the face and fils both ears with water. Now at this point another instructor comes to assist and covers my face as so I do not get sprayed again. She is now focused on washing my forehead and ears, so I figure it’s okay probably just a little color on the head she will take it right off. I am now ready for my hair cut and style. As she is drying my hair I get my first look at my dyed scalp, I look like I just performed an oil change, my head had a black forehead headband all over it. IT WAS BAD! I am now told she needs more help because she did not know how to cut my particular hairstyle choice. So the instructor shows her and I am beginning to fume. After about another 30 minutes of her pulling my hair and getting assisted several times she is done. Another instructor checks her work and finds one side longer than the other and corrects it for me. I should have just picked up my purse and take my mechanic looking self out of there. BUT I STAYED. She begins to blow dry my hair and again the pulling of my hair continues. By this time my head hurts so bad from all the other pulling I just pray it will be over soon. She finishes and as I look in the mirror I swear I must have put my finger in a light socket and blacked out. I looked like a tree bush. Again we get assistance and is now educated on proper hair drying techniques. ARE YOU SERIOUS! It is then suggested that a flat iron is needed to help straighten and curl. Can you guess what happened next...???...she did not know how to curl using a flat iron. So after all of this it is now around 2 pm and I can’t take anymore. I told her I was done and left. I have never ever ever experienced such a horrific hair cut salon/school. What happened to learning the basic fundamentals? I will never be back and pray the school only gets better. It does not have the right to use Paul...

I stopped in for a quick consult on wether or not they could come close to the color maintenance Aveda institute in Pembroke Pines Florida had done 6 weeks ago.... they brought out their “color expert” “from California” who asked me what colors I wanted.... I’m looking to maintain the colors I already have. He then begins picking through my hair to show me the different colors and I’m responding yes that one, yes that one, yes, yes, yes... he then again asks what colors I’m looking to get. Total and complete inappropriate, unprofessional, peickly attitude from the get go. I responded, I don’t know the names of these colors. I know nothing about hair or colors. I showed him the pics of my hair the day it was colored and he then asked if I wanted my hair purple from the tips to roots. My hair isn’t purple and if I wanted a bottle job I’d do it myself. I asked a very simple question and he was adamant on basically refusing to do my hair because they cannot color match Aveda colors and blah blah blah. Said he’s from Hollywood and has been doing this many years. If this is the case why are you asking what colors are on my hair?? The photos speak for themselves. He ended up straight walking away without notice and sent another teacher to speak with me. This instructor said oh yeah of course we can do that. All I asked was if they can get close to my previous/current colors and ended up leaving very upset, disrespected, treated horribly and with a migraine. I think the first guy I spoke with was Chris but not sure. The second guy was Greg and he was a breeze compared to that other idiot that expected me to, what, like point to each strand of hair in the pics and say this color, this color, this color, and this color..

I did not go to cosmotology school and I know nothing about hair colors or the process. That what I thought he was there for. Apparently I was wrong. The guy was a complete jerk. And I am very flexible and easy to please. Just trying to get an idea...
