I suppose that "times change" and I guess that also includes libraries. However, all changes are not progress -- some changes are just weird. Sigh.
My idea of a library has always been a place with lots of books, magazines, newspapers, computers, etc., where the patron can peacefully read to his or her heart's content. That's really not what I found at this new branch... I was disappointed (dare I say, startled) at the paucity of books and periodicals. Most shelves seem rather empty. 😟 Perhaps many more books will be added during the upcoming months; I can only hope so. 📚 After all, this branch is still a work in process--there will be 'growing pains'. And that thought begs the question: when will more landscaping be done? The temporary fences and the weeds are eyesores.
Another problem seems to be the way that sounds carry in this building -- not a good result for the library atmosphere. 🤫
Meanwhile, there is plenty to celebrate with the new branch! The staff are attentive, friendly, and ready to help with any questions. The after hours pick-up access is a super idea. Most of all, it is great to have a...
Read morewas really looking forward to coming here! the inside is beautiful and the location is convenient. i love a library, and am so grateful meridian has a new one. however, i am a bit disappointed in other aspects. there are very few places to sit in the library proper, with much of the floor plan devoted to private study rooms that can be reserved instead. the children's area is very close to the center of the library, which means it can be heard from EVERYWHERE. in the few visits i've had, people talk quite a bit (in whispers and loud voices) and no one has made an effort to combat that. the Cherry Lane location has them beat in space, quiet, and staff (at least so far). finally, i plead with the staff at this library to PLEASE stop playing music through the speakers. even though it is soft, a library is always a place i go to for as much complete quiet as i can. the voices of others, the noises from children, and the music combine to create an overall negative experience. again, i hope the library improves soon! it's only been open for...
Read moreFirst of all , I LOVE THE LIBRARY. I am an active user of Libby & read 80+ a year. I say this with the hope that others recognize these issues and we as a community can resolve them. This library is cold and soulless. The outside looks nice but the inside is so daunting that entering you just want to leave as soon as possible. I love the accesability, especially as a nuerodivergant person, but part of building an effective library is building a community space. This is such a sterile entity it could be a warehouse. I want to see more art and fabric. It is not very difficult nor expensive to turn this space into one that benefits the community in holistic ways - it just requires administration who LISTENS. I know I am not the only one saying this, I sincerely hope that visionaries like myself are one day respected enough by the upper management to actualize a truly...
