This is the reason I'm giving this place only a 2 Star Review. We bought tickets to see Rhonda Vincent for Nov 4th in the beginning of May. Then I got very sick with a sepsis infection in my bloodstream & lost my artificial knee in the beginning of June & spent 3-1/2 months on IV antibiotics in a Skilled Nursing Facility until I could get a new knee put back in towards the end of September. Since our seats were in the 4th row of the balcony, I went online to see if they had an elevator, but they didn't. I had no idea there was 2 sets of stairs to get to the Balcony until the night of the concert. I absolutely wasn't prepared for that!! Then I had to climb down these very long steps to the 4th row. The seats were extremely uncomfortable & there was absolutely no leg room. My brother, nephew, my husband & I were supposed to go that night, but my husband stayed home because he was sick. I was able to "stretch" my right leg in front of his unused chair but it didn't help much to control the pain. I watched a lady walk down the aisle carrying a large bottle of either wine or booze & there was another guy who was so drunk, he had a hard time getting up to leave. I just didn't know they allowed you to bring in your own alcohol, not that I would have. I tried to get in touch with Sorg before the concert, to see if it was going to be easy for me to get to my seat in the balcony but because it's completely run by volunteers, I couldn't get ahold of anyone. I wish I would of known the challenges with the stairs & there's no leg room in the Balcony except for the 1st row, I might of been able to of somehow upgraded my tickets for Main floor seats which had more leg room beforethe concert. When I entered the Sorg & was about to walk up the stairs, a volunteer told another volunteer that I was really struggling & if they had any seats on the Main floor open that we could have, they had one seat only & I didn't want to split up & sit by myself, so I thanked them & said I would go up to the Balcony & I'm glad it was so dark in there, because I was in so much pain, I cried through the entire concert. I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would if I hadn't had to climb so many stairs & had...
Read moreThis is a great local venue for entertainment. They do have a small problem with either the air conditioning system or the person who decides what the temperature should be in the theater at performance time. I had to wear a jacket today at a 3pm performance, and just after the break I gave up and left. My feet were cold, and I was tired of just being cold in general. I was told at the front during the break that the air conditioning had been turned off at 1 and the system was just running on maintaining but the temp had risen 3 degrees already. I didnt think to ask what the temp was before it had risen 3 degrees before I left. Several people went outside to warm up, and several came back in with jackets on. Yes, I will continue to go to this theater, and in fact have already purchased tickets for another show. I will remember to dress warmer for my next visit however. Turning up the temp on the A/C or not setting it so low to start with would save them money. Setting the temp so low when they start it up for a show, but then having to shut it off 2 hours before the show...
Read moreWent to see Signs of Life: The American Pink Floyd at the Sorg. I know the Sorg is going through renovations, but while it has a cool old-time theater feel, it really is a rather run down venue that still needs a lot of work. On the positive side, the seats were comfortable and the place was clean. But visually, ornate architecture is mixed with deteriorated wall/roof coverings/painting to really give the internal look a "trashy" feeling. I'm assuming that they just haven't gotten around to that part of the renovation.
I feel the venue is just right for plays and smaller musical groups. It gives an intimate setting that I think vocals, small groups and plays can really benefit from the layout. I could see this being a good spot to see a play back in its heyday. The Pink Floyd cover may have been a little bit much for this venue. Loud music just doesn't fit the acoustics. It gets really loud and a little distorted.
My recommendation is to pick your entertainment here wisely, but in general you should enjoy what...
