Let me tell you of my experience with Interwest Electronics, crack a beer cuz it's going to be long winded. Back in 1986, a few years out of high school, I finally pulled the trigger on my 1st luxury item, a fully loaded, 120 Watt, Pioneer stereo with a dual tape deck, receiver. record player & some bad ass 12" woofer speaker cabinets. This system cost me an arm and a leg bitd but it was worth every penny. This stereo at times got me thru alot of kick ass parties & some really low points in my life but she was always there for me. In the late 90's, after some serious abuse of being cranked to 11, the amp died. I put her in storage & kept her knowing that one day I'd make it right and get her running again. Fast forward to 2017, wife, 2 kids and a boat load of albums I was gifted and had collected needed to get played. I decided to see what it would take to get my baby cranking the tunes again. I goggled & Interwest Electronics came up. I loaded up my amp & turn table & headed down one Saturday morning. Randy welcomed me in & took a look at my system right there on his counter. He gave me a rough guess of what I was looking at repair, I knew that he couldn't give me an number without really digging in so I told him to give me a heads up if it was above a cost we both agreed on. I ended up shooting the breeze with him for at least an hour talking old stereos & music. It's been a long time since Iv'e met such a genuine, likeable soul like Randy. He also said it would be at least 3-4 weeks before he could get to it & I was OK with that. About a month later, he called & described what was wrong & what it would cost. It wasn't cheap. But guess what? This vintage stereo equipment is worth it's weight in gold now, yes, my wife was going to be pissed but Iv'e have this stereo for 31 years, I'm bring her back to her former glory! About another month went by & I.W. called & said the amp & turntable was done. I went down & picked it up, Randy went over every detail of what he & his crew did to it. He also sent me to Perfomance Audio to get my speakers re-coned (which I did for a measly $100). About a week later, I hooked everything up, decided to break it in with Pat Travers "Go for what you know" album.........cranked. "Boom, Boom, out go the lights" NEVER sounded better. Iv'e had a blast over the past few months going thru my collection & my baby sounds killer. Now, let's get back to some of these negative reviews, like I told Randy, he fixes old muscle cars a.k.a. vintage, kick ass, tear your face off, balls to the wall, electronic audio equipment. Oh yeah, it doesn't come cheap if you know your muscle cars. You want a gas cap for that 70' Cuda? How about that dash for your 69' Charger? Do you want to pep up that Olds 442 with some headers & some Cherry Bombs? It's gonna cost you & you BETTER be prepared to shell out the dough to have it fixed by experts. Bringing in your POS Walmart stereo or VHS player you bought for $75 & expect them to fix it for nothing, well keep stepping & don't give them a hard time. This place is also a museum & on display & for sale is some excellent old school equipment that would tear the roof off your house if you took it home. I couldn't more happy with the service that Randy & his team have provided me. I recommended them to all my friends & will continue to do...
Read moreLong time overdue for this, and my apologies to Randy and the gang at Interwest Electronics for the delay in writing this review. A little background first. My oldest brother was in the army, stationed in Hawaii, back in the mid to late 70's. While there he built up a decent stereo setup. Of which, this turntable belonged to. This model, a Kenwood KD-2077, made it through that entire process, a return trip back to the mainland, through the 80's and most of the 90's before being retired. I inherited this turntable last January of '18 while traveling through Dallas. The turntable had been through quite a bit, between all of the decades of relocation, combined with an adult beverage (or other adult activity) being utilized at the same time. So, it certainly had seen better days. This unit was in storage for at least 15 years, by the time I got a hold of it. And, as you can see in the picture, it shows. From the cracked and badly scuffed dust cover, the cue lever simply dropping the tonearm, a broken tonearm rest, the direct drive motor not being able to hold a speed and several other cosmetic issues, most people would have probably sold this as parts, or even tossed it in the trash. But, for me, it held a fair amount of sentimental value and I knew that, for the time period, this was a darn good turn table in it's day. And frankly, with the features it has, it is still a darn good turn table even compared to most of today's average offerings. Plus, I suppose that I'm just not smart enough to go buy a new one, as I seem to usually take the "less direct" route. At any rate, I decided to bring this unit into Interwest and see what Randy and the good folks there could do. They had the unit a while and I was very clear with Randy what I was wanting to achieve, and that I was also in no hurry at all. When it was all said and done, they had the unit for about 4 months, which was just fine by me since I had another turn table, and I was putting together a media room to utilize this unit in, for the main purpose of converting about 500 albums to digital format. Needless to say, and as you can tell by the picture (which genuinely does NOT do justice) they did an AMAZING job of not only repairing every little detail that wasn't right but, also doing a complete restoration on the unit. Besides the unit not only looking like brand new but, the speed of the platter is spot on perfect. The tone arm raises and lowers, as it should, via the cue lever. The new Grado cartridge and stylus tracks perfectly and sounds amazing. The guys at Interwest went way beyond what I expected and having used them many years before, I knew this was the place that would give my turn table the TLC needed to bring a new life to it. This experience has even more removed any hesitation that I might have in the future, as to where I would bring my components for repair. Thank you Randy and to all of the crew at Interwest Electronics for having an unbelievable level of pride in your work and for just simply doing an amazing job! You guys are the best and you will have my work and...
Read moreMy new Yamaha receiver went out. Since my grandkids are coming from out of state for Christmas to watch 4k movies and play Xbox games for the first time I needed this receiver to work. I have 11 days to get it fixed. It being a Friday night Yamaha was not open until Monday to authorize any repairs at their cost. That meant more days lost in getting the receiver up and running in time for their arrival. I saw on the internet that Interwest Electronics Corporation does the warranty repair work for Yamaha in this area. I called Interwest Saturday morning and Randy answered the phone. I recognized Randy's name from reading the reviews concerning Interwest and the service provided by Randy. Any reviewer who said anything positive about Randy are absolutely correct! I have never met Randy personally. My only contact with him has been this initial call and a followup call. Randy was very sympathetic to my plight. He gave suggestions on how to hopefully get the receiver back to working. I felt he was willing to take whatever time it took to walk me through the various solutions while on the phone. He suggested that since I bought the receiver through Amazon it might be faster to have them exchange it rather than go through warranty repairs. He also said that while I was performing the suggestions he made to possibly get the receiver to work again he would look up the spec's on it to see if there were other solutions. He took my name and number so he could call me if he found out anything which may help further. Randy agreed to have me call him one way or the other concerning any success or failure I experienced. I did as he told me and the receiver didn't work. I then followed his suggestion and called Amazon. They agreed to exchange the receiver, pay for the return postage, and arrange to have the receiver picked up at my house. I should have my new receiver any day now. Here's the point... if I ever need an electronic item fixed, I will go to Randy. Any person who is willing to take the time help another he doesn't know with little or no possibility of getting paid for it and/or who makes a suggestion which may cost him some business (like making the exchange with Amazon) deserves mine and your business. Randy has got to be a thorough and knowledgeable technician, a decent human being. and a person who cares more about service then making money. I almost wish I would have something electronic breakdown so I could reward this guy with...
