The food was delicious but they really messed up on the service. The young woman who served us was very nice and apologetic about everything. The other people were curt and frazzled I suppose. I can understand being busy but that doesn't forgive how poor the service was. Basically we arrived at 5:30pm (on a Wednesday), 5 of us and a toddler. Bad idea—do not take a little kid. I can't believe she sat in that chair for 2 hours. She must be an angel. When we arrived there were only a few other groups of people, and yet it took 30 minutes for us to even get some water and menus. (Actually, I went to the back and got the menus myself because it was ridiculous.) A group of two who arrived at the same time as us had, at this point, ordered, and got their food shortly after. It took another...15, 20 minutes? before someone actually came to take our order. By this point the restaurant was packed, probably because of this really really terrible time and order management. By 6:40 two groups who arrived AFTER us had food and we still didn’t even have our appetizer. We never got a refill on water, or extra napkins after the (frazzled) waitress spilled the sauce. We got 2 side dishes. ...Meaning, two bowls. For 5 people. I had to ASK for the kimchi. And they brought us more fish cakes, yippee, what about the OTHER side dishes? The food is a rather expensive without the side dishes. My soup I got was super good and had big chunks of meat (which should have been broken up). We got a supposedly noodle and meat dish but it had about 3 tiny pieces of meat in it. So...it was tasty but um that's not going to cut it.
The last time we came was a couple years ago and it was for lunch and I remember it being fine, if a little bit slow. I will not be...
Read moreI debate a lot of how many stars I should give this restaurant.
If I am considering only the taste of their food, there is no doubt that they should get 4.5-5 stars.
However, all factors considered, they will get a 3.75 stars if I have an option to do so.
Firstly, be expected that the service will be very slow (they have signs that will explain this to you) due to staffing issue. We came in and wait for about 45-50 minutes until the lovely auntie came to take our order. Then another 30 minutes for the food to come out. This lovely auntie is very friendly and kind; however, only her alone juggling everything in at front of house. So if you are not patient enough or don’t have time, you should be aware of this.
Secondly, be expected that the food will be quite expensive. This is subjected to personal judgment. To me, the food are pricey for their portion size.
Regarding the food, I wish that their Galbi Jjim will be softer. The bibimbap bowl tastes great and I like their soup.
I wish they have good business and will be able to solve their staffing issue. I might come back to try...
Read moreWe went to Jang Soo Jang several times a year at its old location and loved it, but since their move to a new location, the quality and service have come down a bit. The service wasn't quite as attentive the last couple times and they forget to give you a spoon even when you order a soup. It also makes me a little sad that they've dispensed with metal chopsticks which would be more authentic and environmentally friendly than the disposable wooden ones. They've also become less trusting with customers cooking their own meat. If you order Sam gyap sal, they'll still bring it to you on the burner but they've already cooked it. Cooking your own was half the fun. Their Deok Bokki is more of a soup than I've seen at other Korean places around. I kind of like it as Deok with gochu jang paste texture rather than a broth type soup, but that's just a personal preference of mine. The quality of the Folsom bibimbap was also down. It just didn't seem as fresh. Overall still good, with room to improve. Love the new location. More...
