Morgan Hill library is probably one of the best libraries around the south-bay area. I have used/or visited a number of libraries in the south bay both college, universities and public. I have been a member of both the San Jose system and the Santa Clara system. Since I have moved to Morgan Hill I have fallen in love with this library. Its layout, the availability and variety of resources, the helpful and friendly staff and hours of operation that are far superior to many other libraries in the area, make it an easy choice for a first stop on the library circuit. The Library is well laid out with the comfort and use of the patrons in mind. The children’s section is extensive and placed up front far away from the lounging area for adults that is nested into the far side of the library allowing the rows of books to act as a sound buffer giving a nice quiet atmosphere for reading. In the middle is the area for juniors and high schoolers set up with lots of desk space and internet accessing computers to allow for both group and individual study with quick access to both non-fiction and other resource materials right at hand. There are quieter study rooms and a smattering of individual desks around the outskirts giving nice little study nooks for individuals or college students more comfortable in a singular setting. This combined with special use rooms, allow for many learning activities for the community. The libraries resources are not only limited to the books, magazines and videos on the shelves, but extend to numerous resources available through the internet, allowing the checking out of e-books, music mp3s and a variety of digital information solutions. While it’s true that the website needs a little getting used to, but that is mainly because they pack so many offerings into it. My favorites include the mp3 music, e-book, and audiobook downloads. The best feature I believe is their hold system where you can place a hold on a book and get it from any one of the libraries in the system. It tells you what your wait may be like, and where around the area copies of the book are located and what their status is. If you have issues using the website or their other services that staff is always friendly and willing to answer whatever questions you might have. The staff has always been patient with me and taken the time and effort to go out of their way to make sure I get or understand what ever comes up. They can help with any questions as to where something might be, how to use or access this or that, or and in general anything you might approach them with. Personally, besides the occasional can’t find this question I have had, they have helped me sign up for special talks and events, helped me navigate their website and computer systems, and in general been kind and courteous. The library's hours are easily found on the internet so that you don’t have to guess, and if you just want to hangout you can also visit the little bookstore run by “friends of the library”. It’s a good place to duck into if you want to expand your own personal collection but want to be light on your wallet. I would say that the only thing that is missing from this library is a cafe with bagels, but we can't have everything. All in all, you just can’t beat the experience of...
Read moreMorgan Hill is so lucky to have a library as good as this one!
Plenty of parking at this location, very clean, great working areas (both collaborative and quiet areas available), comfortable chairs, spacious tables, and community events happen here. My only real complaint is that I wish there was a larger quiet area and that they would be open on Sundays. Other than that, hours are pretty good with the library closing as late as 9 on some days and opening as early as 10 on others.
The place is air conditioned, there are plenty of computers with useful software licenses (Adobe and Microsoft suites), and fast wifi. I'm super proud to have grown up in this area and to have the available resources that they provide here. I've been studying at this location for quite some time now, and it really is a great place to learn or get work done. On top of that, they also have a large assortment of books and media (including the latest movies AND video games).
The hold process is really easy too; if the item you're looking for is unavailable, they can actually ship the item once its available from any of the other Santa Clara branches free of charge! I know I've saved tons of money by placing a hold on popular bestsellers and just waiting until they're available. If you have books, magazines, or other media, you've outgrown or grown tired of, you can always donate them here as well! This place is definitely a highlight of Morgan Hill especially if you're a student or professional looking to get some work done or looking to read about...
Read moreThis is such a wonderful library. It is clean and they have great resources for parents. I bring my daughter here for the toddler stories in the morning and Ms. Julie and Ms. Heather are great story tellers and make it fun for the children.
We thoroughly enjoy the singing, dancing especially however I feel obliged to mention that some of the parents who bring their children here do not watch their child as Ms. Julie or Heather are doing story time. If your child is grabbing things in the front, please come get your child, they are YOUR responsibility not theirs! Some parents think its cute or funny, well it's not, it's out right disrespectful.
If you want your child to run around, take them to the park. If you're there to talk to other parents, go to starbucks, this is not happy hour. If your child sees that you're not paying attention and engaging in story time what makes you think they will? This is not a 45 min daycare, you are ruining stroy time for other children who want to listen. Instead you have poor Ms Julie and Heather telling them to sit. Please be a role model for your child and sit and listen, bring a snack for them if they can't sit but clean up after them as well. Anyways, great library, watch...
