This is my go to spot for a nice walk and to relax on a sunny day. Got nice shaded picnic tables to hang out with friends, all with attached community grills to use so you can have yourself a pretty good barbeque.
The Volleyball court looks well maintained and I know a few people who frequent it that seem to enjoy it. The play area is new, but I'm an adult without kids so I don't know how good those are but usually see kids so I'd guess people like them. The courts seem well maintained as well.
The path around the park is what I use most, passing a nice dog play enclosure to let dogs just run around safely. About a mile in length, it's easy to calculate distance for runs and with some inclines and such, it makes for a nice varied walk or run.
All and all, I've seen more people since they made the path to downtown bridged and a lot easier to walk. And is still a clean park, so no real downsides to...
Read moreWe have taken our kids to Watkins Park several times over the last few years. It's clean, off the main road a bit, and pretty easy to access. It has a pretty good sized pavillion, large enough to easily seat 40 people comfortably (maybe more). The playground is fairly diverse enough for your average kid climbers, spinners, runners, and jumpers, but it's not all that big, as far as playgrounds go. Be prepared to walk up a pretty steep hill to get to the pavillion/playground area. It's not elderly/handicapable friendly, unless I am missing some kind of alternative access. I found it difficult to walk back down the steep hill in my flip-flops. I think there's a basketball/tennis court there, but we've never used it. I'd probably give it 4 stars if it weren't so high up on the hill. Thanks...
Read moreNewer playground is large with lots of features. There are musical instruments, climbing web into a treehouse, spinners, slides, handicap boat (idk what it's called), monkey bars, slides, jumping pedestals (also don't know the actual name), there's even a small skate park. There are picnic tables at the adjacent pavilion. There's also the older playground/original playground which has old fashioned swings and smaller play equipment for the little ones, monkey bars, slides, etc. a wooden gazebo there too for shade and it has a public restroom and water fountain at that spot, usually well maintained. Plus the park has walking paths, tennis courts, volleyball courts, lots of parking and you can get to rails to...
