We've had no end to problems with this store. Some time ago, my wife and I went in and were stopped at the door, because her purse looked too much like a backpack. We were told that she would have to leave it in the car. We went to Tractor Supply instead, but I did call their corporate number to let them know that if that's their policy that's fine and that's their right, but it's also why we took our business elsewhere.
I got a call back from a district manager pretty quickly, who told me that was absolutely not their policy, that he definately didn't want them telling people it was their policy, and that he would talk to the store manager and make sure we didn't run into that problem again. A couple weeks later we went back, and got stopped again. We left, and I called the district manager again to let him know what happened. He told me that he would go to the store and handle the matter personally.
We went back about a month later, and got stopped while shopping by a woman once again telling my wife she had to give up her purse. I still had the district managers number in my call history, so I just called him directly, explained the situation, and handed the phone to her. After he spoke with her she gave me the phone back, and he apologized one again, saying that he wasn't sure why we kept having this problem but that we would make sure he would straighten it out.
After that we didn't return for several months, because there was obviously some disconnect between corporate and store management. But my wife's Grandfather came to town on his birthday and wanted to go to Rural King, so we went back.
This time my wife, who was walking with her 84 year old Grandfather, was stopped by another woman who demanded she turn her purse over so that it could be searched for stolen product. They weren't even leaving the store yet, they were still browsing. She was absolutely mortified. I told her that if it happened again, to tell them that she would be happy to let a uniformed police officer search her purse if they wanted to call one out there.
She has a different purse now, but our diaper bag still looks a bit like a backback, so we're legitimately afraid to walk into the store for fear we'll be harrassed.
The one time we've gone back over the past few months the store seemed to have no concern whatsoever about the safety of their customers or employees during the pandemic. Most of the customers, and even several of the employees, were not wearing any masks or face shields in spite of the state orders, so we left and went to a competitor instead.
Gave them two stars because they do have a decent selection and prices, and it could be a great place to shop if the employees were properly trained to not be hostile towards...
Read moreAbsolute worst service of my entire life. I was genuinely humiliated at this store today by the “manager” Steve. We were trying to buy a rifle to hunt and my fiancé’s ID is not yet updated since we literally just moved to Anderson a couple of months ago and mine is SO I wanted to apply and buy it...as I was going to pay for it anyway and this little kid at the counter named Adam straight up told me “no” without even taking my information. He said no because I would be buying it for my fiancé and I told him NO I wasn’t we came in together to buy this rifle and I have every right to buy it if I wanted to. We are both legally allowed to own and operate a firearm we actually already have many. We both hunt every year together. He got his lowsy manager, Steve, who walked up to me and said “nope” didn’t try to help me or explain why they were denying me service. He told me he didn’t have a reason it was just “no” They didn’t even ask me for my name. Steve was so extremely rude and disrespectful and acted like he hated his job. That is not what you should expect from a manager. I was extremely humiliated they were treating me as if I was some kind of criminal and I’ve never been in trouble in my entire life. I’m a law abiding citizen and it is MY right to buy a firearm and he discriminated against me because I’m a woman. He automatically assumed this rifle I wanted to buy wasn’t for me because I’m a woman. That’s exactly what it was and I don’t understand why they were treating me and my family that way. It was horrible and I would never step foot in there again. I am currently in contact with their corporate office but I will be sharing my story on every media site possible. Do not take your service here. These people are biased and down right rude and nasty. I have never felt discriminated in my life until today. We went to the other rural king because this certain rifle we wanted was on sale. The ladies at the rural king in New Castle were very pleasant and helpful and we walked out with that same exact rifle with no trouble at all. But until this is made right I will never do business with Rural King ever again and I will be sure to let all of my friends and family know. No one should walk into an establishment and be treated and humiliated like I was today for absolutely no...
Read moreThere is everything you need for any farm. Good prices, nice staff, good selection of things needed for anything from a small garden to a million acre farm! They have almost anything needed for small animals all the way to up to bovine and equine necessities. The gun counter has a nice selection at very competitive prices including ammo. The camping section is mostly accessories but its hard to beat the cast iron selection. The lawn and garden section has the largest selection of belts and blades in town for mowers and implements, and replacement handls from hickory hammers to pitchforks and shovels. Of course you could buy new but sometimes those hand me down tools are better quality so why not use quality handles to fix them. And they always have those sweets that remind me of my grandparents farm from way back when I was a kid. Every now and then in the Stheil tool section you see something cool like a massive saw with a six foot bar! I personally have no use for this but its cool. Trailer lights, bateries, fluids and oils for tractors, you name it they probably have it. If they don't you probably...
