I'm not sure why more people don't know about or talk about this great floating museum. The group that operates this has pulled together an impressive array of memorabilia from throughout history. Artifacts range from WWI through the War in Afghanistan. They have sections dedicated to the veterans and equipment from each of the wars, plus an area for the “Muskegon connection,” as well as a memorial to K-9 warriors. A treasure like LST 393 deserved to be saved and supported. Nothing brings history to life quite like touring an old ship. Learning about the people who served on board, and the feats of service and bravery that ships like LST 393 represent, is inspiring. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students. You can tour the whole thing in about an hour to 90 minutes. But if you have the time, I highly recommend spending more time there. Stop and read the placards with information. Take a few minutes in each section of the ship to take it all in. LST 393 is a big ship, and sometimes things so immense are hard to grasp. But if you spend a little time there, you’ll soon have an appreciation for those brave souls — some who gave, and some who gave all.

There is SO much to see in the main area on this ship museum, it was almost overwhelming when we first walked in. Prepare to spend a bit of time going through that AND the ship itself. Can't buy tickets in advance, which was fine as there was no wait and no timed guided tour. Wish we'd had more time as we didn't get through the gift shop and they weren't going to be open on weekdays anymore (Sept 1st changes to weekends only) so we couldn't go back the next day. Be aware on a hot day that the interior of the ship will be about 10 degrees or so HOTTER then it is outside as air cannot move around inside freely (we were sweating by the time we'd finished wandering around the ship). Still highly recommend as it is a piece of USA history preserved.

We visited July 2017 and the whole family loved it!! My 18yo daughter, who's a photography student, got many beautiful shots of the awesome engine room. My 11yo son, who's a WW2 buff, loved the entire ship, my hubby loved that it was so detailed, everything was explained how it was used and I loved that it's a museum & so many service men & women are honored in it! The volunteer employees were quick to Welcome us and thoroughly answered all our questions!! You will not be disappointed! A great thing for all ages!

Pretty cool museum. The man at the front collecting the money could brush up on his people skills. Maybe he just got out of bed on the wrong side. The ship is 3 levels and lots to see on every level. It is right along the bike path. If you ride your bike don't use the bike rack. The irrigation system is pointed right at it. Quite the suprise to have everything soaking wet on a gorgeous day.

Great experience to go through the ship. It has a lot of memorabilia inside. I learned a lot about the D-day of Normandy invasions. There's no guide, you can follow the maps throughout the ship. If you have difficulties on climbing stairs or have issues with tight spaces you may not be able to get into all the locations. They arrange also sleepovers in the ship if you're interested.

The history at this museum is incredible. The many plaques throughout the museum are very interesting to read, and they paint a picture of what the ship must’ve been like in its prime as a warship. You can go down as far as the engine room and up as far as the top level! There is a gif shop inside for souvenirs. Prices are reasonable at $10/adult as if 2021.
