Thank you for your response to my review @Niki Moon Salon. While I appreciate you taking the time to explain the whole double booking process, my issue was not about that at all even though it was poorly communicated to me. MY MAIN ISSUE HERE WAS FAILURE OF SERVICE! NO APOLOGY! EXCEPT GO TO A JUNIOR STYLIST.I came to the salon for my last 2 appointments and did not receive the service I paid for and had to spend an extra hour to have my hair redone during my November appointment and now in January, I had to come back to the salon an additional time for my hair to be fixed. I'm all for people helping each other but would like to get the value of service for the time and money I spent. I'm fully aware of how double booking works but just not happy that I didn't get valuable service and wasted time in the process.
UPDATE TO REVIEW & RATING: The Manager reached out to me after this review and apologized for the experience that I had and both she and the owner Niki ensured that I came back and had my hair fixed.
I've been going to Niki Moon Salon for this past year and have been seeing their stylist Heather S. I believe she was a Junior Stylist when I started going there. My experience with her was great that I decided to keep coming back. However, my last 2 appointments have been TERRIBLE and clearly not worth my time and money. I was scheduled for both my appointments the last 2 times with my Stylist double booking at the same time and delegating my hair gloss processing and hair wash to 2 newbies working there. Last time the girl just emptied the bottle of gloss as a big blob on my head, sprayed it all over my face, the floor and the walls. She didn't process it through my hair and washed it out quicker than the time I was told. My highlights clearly didn't absorb the gloss and my stylist tried to wing it but saying how great the color looked, except that it wasn't the color I had done the previous time. After much back and forth, she said she could redo the gloss and of course now my appointment is an hour over my scheduled time only because she booked someone else in between my appointment and was rushing through mine and could care less. I let it go thinking it might be a one off thing. My gloss faded quickly and the highlights were uneven as the weeks went by. I go for my next appointment yesterday and guess what, the same thing. Heather scheduled another person's haircut in between my appointment and sent me off to another girl to process my gloss and hair wash. Again, the gloss was not applied properly and the girl barely used any shampoo or conditioner to wash my hair. I brought up this concern to my stylist and she said that she needs to make more $$$ and needs to double book appointments. No apology for the botched job. I asked her, if she could just do my whole appointment the next time and her response was we'll have to charge you more for that. I was like WAIT!!! WHAT!!! MORE THAN $170 & $20 in gratuity???? I was like you've got to be kidding me. She then proceeds to tell me that if I want someone to take care of my entire appointment, I would need to go see a Junior Stylist. I was literally dumb founded at the absolute disregard for someone who has been coming to her for a while now to just flat out say, I need to make more $$$ so I can't take care of you and if you don't like it, I'll have to charge you more or you can go to a Junior Stylist. Worst thing is I now have a second botched hair job after spending close to $200 yesterday. My hair around my hairline on my forehead has only the bleached hair and is missing the gloss that was supposed to be covering it and match the rest of my hair that is at least 3 shades darker than it was supposed to be because guess what I was allowed to sit in the bowl while my stylist was busy with her second double booking. Oh and I was assured that my greys would be covered with my highlights and guess what that isn't either. The picture will show you. Completely...
Read moreThis review is of my experience from about a year ago. I submitted a consult online requesting balyage that blended my very overgrown roots with my dyed lighter ends. I submitted a picture showing how my hair looked. I also had reference photos for my stylist. When I was called about booking my appointment, they claimed they lost the pictures. Then, when I got there, my stylist said she did see them. Despite booking my appointment a couple weeks ahead of time and giving them plenty of notice what I wanted, when I came in, my stylist told me she couldn't do everything I wanted. I wanted balyage that blended my dyed hair with my natural roots so I could grow my natural hair out without the overgrown root line. She was very reluctant and insisted we do only color correction and I come back on another day for the balyage. I agreed to this as she was so persistent. What I did not agree to was the use of TEMPORARY hair dye! Why would i do color correction that fades away??? She did not tell me until after my hair was complete that it was temporary hair dye and my color correction would not last! It faded in a couple of months, and the $200+ I spent on all this was a complete waste. I was willing to spend way more to get exactly what I wanted. Additionally, I wanted a balyage that would overall lighten my hair, and the temporary hair dye she used on me made my hair significantly darker! She was excited to tell me during my treatment that she was hoping to get off early that day to take a vacation. No wonder I couldn't get the proper service I was expecting. If you want to get off early and don't want to do the hair that someone requests, just tell me or cancel my appointment, and I would have waited and gone somewhere else. Additionally, the woman responsible for washing hair was so rough and aggressive on my hair that it hurt. She then took a towel and aggressivly rubbed my wet hair in it. This causes hair loss and breakage. When my hair was done being washed, I sat with a towel in a seating area while my hair stylist was either chatting with her coworkers or what I assumed to be taking care of another client. The whole experience was so disappointing because I really looked forward to trying out this salon for a very long time. I hardly ever splurge on myself like I did that day, so it was overall very upsetting. I think if you go there, be very careful who your stylist is. Some other people looked happy while I cried when I got to my car. I was told if I did not like my hair to call the salon, but that feels so embarrassing to call up and complain after a service is complete. When you are paying for a beauty service, you expect it to be done right the first time. I won't ever be back despite how luxurious they make it seem. I didn't enjoy any part of...
Read moreYesterday was my first visit to the salon, and unfortunately, it will also be my last. I realize I may not reflect what is considered the “typical” client, especially in a place like Naperville, but I genuinely felt as though I was treated differently because of that.
Now, regarding the cut and color: I’m no stranger to vivid hair colors, I’ve worn just about every shade in the rainbow. That said, I’ve never experienced such a messy or uncomfortable application. I left the salon with dye all over my face, in my ears, down my neck, and even inside my bra, not just along my hairline, but across my cheeks and jawline. I had to request additional color remover and a cloth from the shampoo assistant so I could attempt to clean my face, and even then, it wasn’t enough. Once home, I had to wash my hair three times, something I would never normally do right after coloring, in order to remove the remaining dye from my skin, neck, and body. I understand some color transfer to the scalp is expected, but this went well beyond that.
As for the haircut, it felt rushed and incomplete. I have short hair and needed a more precise cleanup, which I had to finish myself the next morning. Part of the issue seemed to be that my stylist was working on another client at the same time, doing both a cut and color. When I returned from rinsing out my dye, the chair I’d been using was covered in hair, and another client’s purse had been placed next to mine, which confirmed the stylist was managing both appointments. While she did apologize for going back and forth, I want to be clear that my frustration is not directed at her personally. She was kind and professional, but clearly overbooked, and likely not the one responsible for the scheduling.
For a service that totaled over $260 (which I did tip 20% on, despite being extremely dissatisfied, I don’t believe in shorting someone’s pay when the issues seem systemic), I left feeling frustrated and honestly, ripped off. I was given a price estimate in advance and had no issue with the cost, had the service met that level of quality and care. Sadly, it did not.
I’m aware the salon may respond, but unless a refund (minus the tip) is being offered, I’m not interested in further discussion. I will not be returning. Perhaps I need to look beyond Naperville for a salon that doesn’t make assumptions about clients based on appearance or style and does not...
