If you have never had sushi or ramen from a halfway decent resturant and have been cursed without taste buds. Well this might Be your place, I say this after just eating there. First off their happy hour is 40% on a good selection of sushi, that is if you bring a wad of cash with you because they only accept cash with the happy hour special. Which I can only imagine is their policy to deture people from obtaining the good deal. The waitress, had to read the menu before she explained this to us, and literally just repeated what was on the menu. My wife ordered a ramune soda which is a very common drink at japanese resturants that come in a bottle and is sealed with a marble. We had to explain to the waitress what it was before she understood. The sushi we did order sat at the bar for literally 10min, the manager walked past it twice and a second waitress multiple times, we were the only other table in the restaurant so they were not busy. So the waitress left our sushi sitting there until our ramen was ready. I have made instant ramen at home that cost less than a dollar that had more flavor then their ramen. The noodles, vegetables, and pork were a good texture. The presentation was a mess, ramen is usually presented in a specific way with the ingredients in the bowl. It was all thrown around and looked honestly like trash. As for taste, seasoning is not apart of their kitchen, the pork had NO seasoning, the broth was basic beef stock and thats it. We had to pour soy sauce for some kind of flavor. The sushi had decent texture, but it had a bad after taste that only low quality fish has. The other family there complained before we got our food, that their noodles were under cooked. I felt a bit sick after eating there and im really amazed and confused as to how this got 4 and half stars. Will not be back, will not...
Read moreFirst time ordering take out from here. They don't have online ordering which is annoying. Normally I would pick a place that had online ordering, but this place was on my way to where I was going. I basically had to yell into the phone since it was so loud in the background.
I ordered 3 rolls and edamame. I was told it would take 30 minutes, I arrived in 35 minutes. All tables were full and a couple of other people were waiting for takeout. She asked for my name and went in the back and put my edamame in a pot. She was back there for a few minutes and the sushi chef asked her to go out front. He finally went out and took a couple of table's orders.
She came back out and kept walking by me without saying anything, like how long it would be, etc. There were 2 containers of sushi sitting on the counter that I didn't realize were mine, until my edamame was done and she started packing up my order. Then she took off again. Then she came back to ring me up, which took a long time. Then I had to ask for soy sauce, then chopsticks, then napkins.
I was there for 15 minutes, which was 20 minutes after I called to order. The lack of customer service and just simple communication is ridiculous. If I knew my rolls were ready and she still had to boil my edamame, I would have just canceled the edamame. But again, no communication.
The rolls were just ok. Hardly any Wasabi. There were 2 rolls in a small Styrofoam container, and one roll in a larger container which was tipped over and kind of a mess. All 3 rolls could have been put in the same container. Or, get better containers like the ones all other...
Read moreIt was a somewhat cold, rainy night when I and four work compatriots chose to dine at Yamado. We were all weary from day two of three of a corporate summit for an equipment reliability and improvement task force. We quickly concurred on Japanese food as the cuisine for the evening.
Upon arrival, the restaurant was empty but for the chef and server present. The furnishings in the interior are sparse, but what is there (children's drawings, chopsticks sets, a small Christmas tree) were tasteful and left me more comfortable than I normally am while dining out.
Our group chose a variety of appetizers, including edamame, pork gyoza, and shumai. None disappointed. The gyoza were quite plump and more crispy than expected, but I prefer a crispier gyoza so this pleased me (better absorbs and retains the dipping sauce).
I chose the spicy seafood Ramen as my entree. Similarly, this was also fabulous. The broth had the characteristic depth of flavor only ramen broth really provides and was well spiced to boot. The only thing I could possibly complain about (but alas, I'm really not because this is positive as well) is the portion size. Between the appetizers and whatever was still in the tank I simply could not completely finish my bowl. The chef appropriately admonished me, which I acknowledged with what I feel was an appropriate amount of shame and self-effacement.
I will remember this place if sushi or ramen cravings return when I'm at the corporate office on a future trip. Thanks Yamado for the...
