El Hogar Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Naperville

I saw this place driving by and thought I'd try it since I'm working in the area for a bit. The staff is friendly and the dining area is clean.

The food flavor is meh, and the salsa "bar" is weak. They were watered down and the green tomatillo salsa was a weird shade of food coloring green. The salsa cups are thimble size. The Horchata was nice, but I'm disappointed when I sit down at a Mexican place and they don't have chips and salsa for you. It's just not welcoming. Then to try the salsas they do have and there's not much flavor and they're watered down? The steak burrito didn't come with beans and it's just not very good, not to mention that it's priced higher than typical for a lightweight burrito.

I tried it once. Due to the lack of flavor, and the higher prices I won't be back a second time.

I think it's worth mentioning, I was there for lunch and there wasn't another person in the dining area, and only one car came through the drive through in the 30 minutes I was there to sit and eat.

A personal complaint: The TV was on CNN and I had to listen to politics when I just wanted to enjoy my break and my meal. I really don't care to be flustered by the state of our overlords when I'm just looking for 30 minutes of calm while I'm off the jobsite. I would have rather had no TV or most anything other than 24 hour coverage of the presidential race. But maybe...

Used to come to this place a lot because the older gentleman is always so kind and always provides a wonderful experience and the food he made kept me coming back. However when I ordered last Friday, another individual was taking the order and forgot part of it. I had even tipped as I usually do because it was one of my favorite restaurants. I returned today and let that same person know about his mistake and he argued with me that I should’ve called that same day to let them know and he can’t do anything to remedy it now. Over $3 fries he chose not to make it right due to his lack of customer service skills and lost a loyal customer. His attitude during the entire interaction left a poor taste in my mouth and I refuse to bring my business here again. I didn’t ask for more than what was forgotten, simply what I hadn’t received and payed for. He clearly remembered us since he knew we didn’t order the tacos with tomatoes when he mentioned it when we ordered. Food was typical Mexican style and cuisine but not exceptional!

The believed owner's daughter was very hospitable but her old man the owner was breathing down my neck.

I was casually a periodic late night paying customer.

The last time I went there it was before 2 AM and I needed to do some work on my computer while eating and I dozed for a moment with my hands on the keyboard and his radar was on me and he instantly came over and slapped his keys on my table and told me I had to leave because I was sleeping!

He frequently had after bar closing customers, Latins notably, who laid their heads down on their tables drunk and smelling of alcohol sleeping, not dozing, of whom he made no issue but me momentarily dozing at the keyboard sitting upright was unacceptable conduct!

No warnings just wham bam out! He banned me from the restaurant for that!

I wished his daughter well and left.

This restaurant is not recommended as he profiles non Mexican / Hispanic / Latin customers for special attentions!

I suspect that those who have commented here of poor service and substandard food inconsistent with the menu are most likely evidencings of his profiling!
