Okay I never got to experience this beach. We drove about an hour and a half to get to this beach. We went last Sunday and it was overcrowded and there's a fee of $10 per person? Which seems okay because sometimes beaches do that when you need to park or something right? But this wasn't a parking situation we had already parked on the street about a 5 to 10 min walk to the beach and as we're going in we needed to pay $10? And on top of that you can't park in the parking lot even if you pay to get in(I guess it's only available for residents or those with a pass). So I guess the fee applies to those who do not live within the town. Not a very friendly Beach.Maybe it was our mistake for not doing ample research on the potential fee but most beaches charge fees for parking and not just entering in general but that's not the case here. I later understood that maybe they were so strict on not allowing us to go in because we were out-of- Staters and I guess they currently want us not to go to their beaches. But that is no reason to be so unfriendly to non locals. But in another hour and a half to Beach would be free which is another reason why charging $10 is dumb( if they had charged $5 considering the time I would have paid-up). First of all the beach was extremely overcrowded so you're paying extra money to possibly be exposed to the coronavirus because no social distancing practices were being on top of not having a parking spot close and convenient because it's for Members Only. The guy running the place was not very pleasant and he doesn't know how to treat visitors with respect and for that we did not want to give him a dime of our money. So we went down the road about two miles at Scarborough and it wasn't nearly as packed and it was much cheaper and you only paid for parking which was a total of $14 as opposed to $20 for an overcrowded Beach in which we had to walk quite a distance from the cart actually get to the beach only to be told we need to pay a fee because we are not residence. I would avoid this beach if you can. If not just know there is a $10 fee for out of staters and I think for anybody that's not a citizen of Narragansett. The guy who was dealing with us as we were trying to go into the beach seemed pretty Pleasant he was just doing his job but the higher up was not. As we were walking away the few employees at the entrance seem to be laughing at my friend being discouraged which is very immature and does not show they have any care for being good employees and they sent a little spy over as my friend had made it obvious that she wasn't very happy with what was going on and he was there watching us as we walked back to the car to make sure we didn't jump down to the beach over the wall. If I ever go back maybe I will do that just to spite them. So I just waved to him to let him know that I'm aware that he is watching us. There is is some street parking that can be convenient but that's if you're lucky enough to be they're at the right time or if you go early enough. So not the best experience but we ended up going to a better beach for less money close parking and less people so it...
Read moreHands down, one of my favorite RI beaches. In fact, Probably one of the best in the North East, but don't take my word for it. It's better that the less people who know about this hot spot, the better off us regulars are off. I needs to have a spot to throw my towel, while I enjoy the sun & fun.
Folks who prefer a smaller family friendly Summer destination over the larger State beach offerings will be right at home. Narragansett offers all the standard amenities; such as lifeguards on duty, bathrooms, outdoor showers, & snack bar. They also have a designated surfing area for those who require more than just perfect sand & clear New England water to complete their Summer outing. In fact, a few of the local surf shops by at water's edge to either rent gear or provide lessons.
Certainly, a local favorite that the Summer mobs typically avoid due to parking & price woes.
As for pricing; All non-Narragansett residents will be expected to drop coin for a day in the sun at this local haunt. Out of towners can expect to pay as much as $7 per person & no less than $14 for parking on a per visit basis, which can be costly for even a small family. Not to mention that parking is extremely limited & often full on even an average day during prime season.
Of course, Narragansett residents with appropriate proof of residency can save big & have the luxury of utilizing the resident only parking. Non-resident can save a bit on admission by purchasing a season pass for around the cost of $50 per person. Might sound like a lot, but for us New Englanders who love our beaches, a handful of visits will simply pay for the pass.
Be warned that the beach tracks attendance with color bracelets & will eject wall scalers if caught. In addition, like most beaches in the area, alcohol is not permitted. Don't let that scare you though, there are few place just steps away that offer up lunch & beverages of all types just steps from the beach. That's right, Narragansett town center is just across the street with the town Library, Post Office, & town support services like the police & fire departments. You also find a handful of eateries, ice cream, & other cool shops.
In summary, Rhode a island has a ton of great beaches, but Narragansett been my preference for two decades or more. All said & done this town beach is the town beach for this non-resident. Stop by & tell them that...
Read moreThe management here is so poor and very uncomfortable experience with them. We arrived at roughly 8:03am, just before 8:30 when parking opened. The man whom was controlling the gates had them open, which of course would confuse incoming people. So we went into the parking lot, as we've heard that if you arrive before 8:30 it would be free parking. An elderly worker here came to my car and told us that we couldnt park, it was for residents only. So I questioned where we park and he goes and says, "don't get smart with me?", I said I was simply asking where we park and he goes and then says he doesn't mean it in a negative way and touches my shoulder? He goes on to explain the beach rules and says people get charged at 8:30. That was fair I guess, so we decided to find somewhere else to park, even though the gentlemen came off as very rude and we explained that the man wasn't stopping people from coming in.
After finding a parking spot and coming back to the beach, we were fine. We had no charges or anything. We later left around 11:30 to go back to the cars to pick up some things. A few of us stayed with the stuff on the beach. Once we came back to the beach, the workers collecting money told us we had to pay, although we've been here all day and our items were already on the beach. We had to pay $10 per person. I believe the management here is extremely poor and is not worth coming on the beach to have fun. The parking is understandable, but the employees are very rude. They just came off as mean people, as they threatened to throw our stuff off the beach. There was no security this morning or anything at all. The kid at the gate had no idea what he was doing at all. The older man who confronted us this morning had said it was free before 8:30.
Although, The beach is very nice, I don't believe the cost of coming here is worth it financially and dealing...
