There are five-star restaurants, and then, there are five-star restaurants. THIS, is a five-star restaurant. From the perfect location, to the stunning, ocean views. Tastefully appointed building exterior and interior. Contemporary oceanic design, and art that goes back in time, nodding at the nostalgia and history of the location. It is a nice blend of old meets new. Easy to make reservations. We arrived a few minutes before our time and were seated with a fresh welcome and without delay. The staff was dynamite. 🧨 The front of the house staff were focused, attentive, and made us feel like royalty. Our server, Corinne, was very professional, yet down to earth. The timing of our plating between each course was dead on, with never more than the right amount of time to breathe and anticipate what is next! She made sure we had fresh utensils for each course. She described the dishes in detail, was prompt, and was excellent. The back of the house staff put out some unbelievably delicious, fresh, and creative meals. Our shrimp and oysters were as fresh as they come. Our entrees and desserts were spectacular. We had the linguini special, which included shrimp, scallops, and lobster chunks, tossed with a super flavorful pesto sauce. Don’t know the names of the line cooks and chefs who made these dishes possible, but, grazie, grazie. Pastry Chef, Jamie Welsh, is a magician. She has to be the tooth fairy’s nemesis. Our desserts were sinful, creative, delicious, and beautiful. We had a key lime tart with a coulis, and salted caramel cheesecake. I want to go back just for more dessert!! The bar staff made some great mocktails and cocktails that were complex, and delicious. And let’s not forget the wine and dessert liquor lists. I mean, you need a reservation to decide on the ONE you want to get out of so many great options. It should be noted that the bus staff was swift and invisible. They never let a finished plate sit idle, and came and went so fast, you barely realized they were there. Even our waters, were always full, but I don’t recall anyone refilling them. We certainly drank them. Lastly, there was a man and a woman who checked with us as we were about to depart. I am guessing they were maybe the restaurant manager and front of the house manager. It was quick, to the point, and with great eye contact. It felt like they were sincerely interested in our experience. I can’t wait to return. The Anchor Room is timeless, has stunning views, amazing service throughout one’s dining experience, spectacular food, and they make you feel valued. For me, being a valued customer alone is a hard restaurant quality to come by. The Anchor Room hit a home run with everything. It was an experience I will never forget.

Listen to your Mother. We went to the Coast Guard House recently while visiting Narragansett and returned the next night to The Anchor Room. They have the same menu. The view and ambiance are beautiful. We enjoyed our clam chowder. I ordered the linguini and clams against my Mother’s advice who had ordered it the night before. The clams were dry, the sauce tasted like watery broth just dumped over the pasta which was also dry. It’s too bad because the portion of clams was generous but tasted like they had sat under a heat lamp for awhile. I told the waitress who said another table complained. I asked for Parmesan cheese thinking I could jazz it up but it was not good. I let the waitress know when she came back finally but there was no offer to fix it or switch meals and we were presented with the bill. It felt like we were treated as “tourists”. The manager never came over. I don’t love to complain but haven’t been treated like this at a restaurant in a long time which is a shame because the restaurant and views are stunning. Mother knows best.

The lobster bisque soup was amazing! My husband and I said we were going to share a bowl and they split it for us! Definitely the best lobster bisque I’ve had so far in RI! Lobster Mac and cheese was also really great! A very big serving. The atmosphere was so nice! Definitely glad we went here for dinner!!

Very subpar experience overall. Wine service was superb, but food service was mediocre and food quality was very disappointing. Caesar salad was not acceptable - anchovies when asked for no anchovies, but more importantly the salad was bland, lettuce was old (yellow/light green), croutons were soggy, large pieces of cheese on the salad were soggy, nothing about it was fresh. Linguine with white clam sauce was flavorless - added salt and lots of shredded Parmesan, but still bland. Whole clams had clearly been steamed in advance - not hot and dried out. We left plenty of food uneaten, but server didn’t ask if there were...
