Coast Guard House truly delivers a delightful and mouthwatering dining experience! We dropped in during the bustling peak season on a Tuesday evening and decided to try the first-come-first-served seating on the top deck, given our lack of reservation. We arrived around 6 PM and were pleasantly surprised to be promptly seated, even with a party of five.
For those new to this restaurant, keep in mind that due to its shore location, you might encounter sunny or windy conditions during your meal. The relaxed atmosphere was evident, with families comfortably dressed in shorts and tees. The rooftop exuded a great vibe with yacht rock music, adding the perfect touch to our day at the beach.
The view from our elevated perch was absolutely breathtaking, allowing us to savor both our dishes and the sight of surfers catching the waves. Thanks to favorable weather, we enjoyed our dinner and drinks outdoors. The house Cabernet I chose was a standout, impressing with its depth and flavor. The Caesar salad with salmon was a culinary masterpiece, the velvety salmon harmonizing beautifully with the house-made croutons, creating a truly memorable dish.
Every member of our group left content, their meals eliciting delight all around. The Mac and cheese chosen by my nephew was a standout, remarkably delectable. The zesty aioli accompanying the salmon ciabatta introduced a delightful contrast, elevating the overall dining experience. The lobster's skillful presentation added a touch of sophistication to the meal.
Adrianna, our attentive waitress, played a pivotal role in enhancing our evening with her warmth and exceptional service. Her recommendations and genuine kindness truly added to our enjoyment. Undoubtedly, a return visit to Coast Guard House is on our agenda as we eagerly anticipate another exceptional evening. I wholeheartedly recommend treating yourself to dinner and drinks on their rooftop – an experience that guarantees both mouthwatering cuisine and...
Read moreWe had eaten here once prior and it was one of the best meals we ever had. So when we returned on vacation to the area we were sure to revisit this restaurant. We ate here just this past weekend and the only word to describe it this time was vile, an epic fail. We couldn’t believe it was the same place. My family has gluten and dairy allergies which were gloriously tended to on our prior visit with scrumptious melt in your mouth food. This time the food was borderline inedible. My son’s steak was chewy, tasteless and dry. All seasoning was removed. His vegetables hard and swimming in grease likewise with no seasoning. My salmon was over cooked and almost impossible to swallow - they removed all sauce and seasoning from it and the bed of rice noodles it laid on - but put nothing on it all. This time their idea of making something allergen free was to remove all ingredients - they could’ve even just put olive oil and salt pepper garlic on it to give it taste. But nothing. My side of brussel sprouts was swimming in grease and had more fatty bacon than vegetable in it. My husband’s calamari was coated in cornflakes and was again swimming in oil. My husband has no allergies and even his was awful. My husband said his chicken piccata tasted like eating liquid butter with so much lemon on it he couldn’t taste the chicken which was overcooked as well. And all of our various sides appeared when we were mostly through with our entrees. When our server saw our food which was largely untouched and offered to wrap it - when I said no thank you the food was tasteless and ill prepared, she just walked away and returned with the bill, saying nothing. And the food here is not inexpensive. It was like setting a couple of hundred bucks on fire. We all felt ill after this meal as well. For me the death knell of an establishment is inconsistency. We will...
Read moreUpdate: reducing 3 stars for the worst reception by a bartender. All it takes is just one staff to turn you off completely and this saturday quick bite at the bar was just that. I did not see my favorite shrimp buccatini on the menu, so I just waived for help and asked a bartender ,'can I ask you a question'. In a rude tone, he snapped and said 'you just did'. He couldn't be bothered and made it clear that we felt unwelcomed and he did not want to serve us. I've met countless rude servers, but never a rude and arrogant bartender who acts as if he is above a customer! It was just so distasteful that we called another bartender and asked what his name was. The proud bartender was Pat. We considered leaving at that point, but why let an irrelevant guy ruin our dinner, so we asked other bartenders for service. Another disappointment was to find that my favorite shrimp buccatini was a seasonal menu and not available. If you are not a regular, i wouldn't recommend sitting at the main hall 1st floor bar, or avoid Pat as I clearly saw him discriminating regulars and non-regular customers by the way he served. On our way out we brought to the attention of maitre d of this mistreatment that ruins the reputation of coast guard house, and hope the management cares to know about it.
2023:Best outdoor dining right next to Narragansett beach. Beautiful view, sound of wave, perfect weather, food, service and free valet parking. NE Clam chowder, Shrimp Ceviche, Daily special penne pasta with scallop & shrimp, Lobster Roll - herb citrus aioli sauce was very interesting that did not outweigh the fresh taste of lobster meat - One of the best I ever had. I did not want to leave!
Update: Returned in September. Never disappoints! Valet parking can sometimes be full, then park on Ocean road and walk by the ocean side. Shrimp buccatini is an ...
