Azadi International Food Market & Bakery — Attraction in Nashville-Davidson

I really wanted to like this place. I love to cook Persian food and I'm excited to learn more about Kurdish food. The store itself is OK. They have a lot of products I like (tons of spices, rice, dried fruits & nuts, beans of many varieties, torshi, yogurt, cheese, etc.). The merchandise is kind of haphazardly stocked and it's a cramped space but it's manageable.

Unfortunately, my experience here was not great. There are three things that turned me off. First, few items have the prices marked. I don't like to buy things not knowing how much I'm going to pay for them. Second, the bakery situation is confusing. It looks like you're walking into a warehouse. I had no idea how to go about getting bread. There was a metal rack in the back with a few sad looking things on it. No pitas. Did they sell out already by 10:00 in the morning on a Sunday? I grabbed a package of barbari bread off the shelf. It looked OK but it's really stale. Finally, and most annoyingly, the people that work here are not friendly. When I went to pay for my stuff I noticed that there were some syrup sweets on the counter. I asked the guy what they were called and how I could buy some. He acted like he didn't really want to help me and actually laughed at me. I immediately wished I hadn't asked (they weren't that great anyway).

Why would I want to spend money at a store where I'm going to be utterly confused, ignored, barely greeted when I buy things, and then made to feel stupid when I have a question? I know this store is not for me, that it's a grocery for the Kurdish population in Nashville. I get it. But I don't think that excuses rudeness. I can get 99% of the stuff in this store at Amazon without paying shipping. Don't think...

this was a better place to get meat years back.. things changed months back... now it's one of the worst places to get meat.. the butcher is such a lousy fellow. if I ask 4 LB he gives 7 LB of meat and expects me to take the entire thing.. this is nonsense.. why is he agreeing to give 4 LB in first place when he intends to sell more.. it's only bones they are selling recently, to ppl who don't buy more than 7 LB.. the butcher talks stories to regular bulky buyers and forgets rest of them.. THE WORST PART OF IT ALL that made me move away from this is WE FOUND PEPPER BULLET PELLETS in their goat meat. Yes, you heard it right - Pellets made of nickel/iron that kill or injure living beings.. I found no reason for having pellets in meats that are sold in shops for consumption by Human Beings.. this is RIDICULOUS! The only mistake I did was throwing the pellets out instead of escalating it further.. Highly suspicious! I would advise anyone to stay away from...

The main butcher guy is pathetic! He doesn’t want to do anything and have worst attitude. If you ask him to cut a piece of beef into small pieces he will advise you to leave your wife and ask her to get out since she can’t cut beef into pieces. It is bizzare that a person with this mindset serves customers. Will have audacity to give advice on future generations as well. Was here to get meat and not get his pathetic unprofessional advice/taunts with a mockery of customers. Please avoid this meat place if you want to avoid continuous below the belt comments with no respect to customers or women! Worst customer service person I have seen in my life! Get a life and if you hate your job so much that you can’t give 2 bags for 3 pounds chicken without making comment that your home person can’t put it in a bag at a home, please don’t show up to work and keep your sick...
