Stuart's Opera House — Attraction in Nelsonville

This is a gem. An amazing find in the middle of poor town. I'd give a 5 except that Nelsonville drags it down a bit. The staff is great. They are personable and friendly. It is a hassle free experience. When I was there, a beer was $5. Not cheap, but cold and I have no complaints. Acoustics/sound system were excellent. Beware the climb to the seats. There is an elevator but someone with a disability might want to call first and check on size, etc. The facility is glorious and reflects work, investment, and good taste.

But it is in Nelsonville. There isn't much parking, but it seems safe to park a block or so away. There's not much for a pre-show drink or bite. The local restaurants seem to only just tolerate out of towners. Shops in the square can't be bothered to open on a weekend or on a concert night. The attitude seems to be, we're poor and happy not to try to do too much to help ourselves. If traveling, you'll have to stay not far away in Logan or Athens. Two areas that are wonderful and thriving because they understand what smaller areas need to do to survive in the current environment.

The Opera's tickets are expensive. That's ok when it is an act you've been wanting to see. But they should reduce prices on nights when not a sell out and float trippers and hikers are killing time and looking for something to do. But that would be smart business and smart business is not the...

Having our wedding at Stuart’s Opera House was an absolute dream. The venue is breathtaking- historic and full of character yet with state-of-the-art modern features that made hosting a large event there comfortable and easy. You truly can’t find a more impressive venue with so much included for such a reasonable price. Brent, the venue’s event coordinator, made our experience even better and was instrumental in making our wedding day a smashing success. He truly went above and beyond for us. Quick to answer our (zillion) questions, eager to accommodate our requests, and full of helpful advice. He made executing our vision easy. He kept our crazy group organized and on schedule and helped our big day be totally stress-free. All the other staff including the bartenders, porters, and technical staff were also all so professional, helpful, and friendly. We had so many guests tell us how cool our venue was and how much fun they had and we really just can’t say enough great things about this place.
