Love this bar and the atmosphere. But the skinny guy with long hair (bun) and glasses is not very friendly. He did not welcome me when I came in close to closing and immediately stated (strongly and not in a friendly or warm way) that the bar was closing and last call had been made. He was emphatic about nothing being served and treated me like a mean person. I was unaware that the bar closes at 11p (it was 10:45p). My fault. But it would have been nicer to have been greeted and told (in a nicer and warmer way) that the place was going to be closing in 15 minutes. There were a dozen people in the place and I didn’t realize that the bar closed at 11. Another time I came to the bar he said the same thing about the bar was closing and the last call to me but yet he kept serving the other 15 people there. He then served me. I want to go to a bar that is welcoming and social. I live here. He is a student. Not sure if he even cares about the culture in our town. I would be cautious when coming to The...
Read moreI was greeted by the staff in a kind way at first. Then, after stating that we were from NC, they started to become very rude and ignoring us. My fiance was asked if he wanted curly fries or straight fries while I was not. I was automatically given straight fries and they were burnt. I couldn't eat them because my gums hurt. Also, I had asked for my side to be fried pickles but I was charged for a whole order. (She could have told me that they don't do combination meals). I also asked for a honey bbq and I was told that the bbq they had was sweet, (it was not... It was spicy) I can't handle spicy food anymore and I had told her that. I also had to ask for my fries 3 times before I was given the burnt fries. My replacement fries came under cooked and with an additude. ("Is that better ma'am?"). The only thing I enjoyed was the drink... And it was small. I had high hopes for this quaint hole in the wall, but they really disappointed me. Not worth the $50 we spent on...
Read moreThe food here was really good. I had the Mine Burger. It was a lot to eat with two beef patties, salami, spicy mayo, American & Pepperjack cheese, and grilled onions. But then it was covered in Colby cheese! Pure delight.
Our server was fantastic. He took great care of us and told us about the history of the Tavern, which was why we had originally been drawn to it. It opened in 1842 and served the coal miners in the area. It's still going strong, which is a testimony itself.
For me, the atmosphere was a 5 because the original tin walls and ceiling were still in place. It's small inside so might get crowded at times. We went for lunch during the week so had no problem.
This is a place I will definitely go back to...
