We were excited to take my grandson for his 7th birthday. He has been a train enthusiast since age 2. We bought our tickets and boarded and his excitement was immense. As we started on our way we were excited to see what the next hour or so held for us. Well waving to the tubers on the river was fun but then we started passing homes with backyards of trash and debris. The scenic train ride took on a whole new meaning. It was sad to know this is what was classified as scenic. Maybe Hocking county can erect fences along these parts of the ride. Anything is better than seeing mounds of trash, car carcasses, etc The staff was excellent and fun. Gift shop affordable. The pioneer village was so nice and we learned a lot . The only other downside was you can't hear what's being said over loudspeaker along the way. But def recommend because despite the debris mile it was nice.

Wow, what an experience! I recommend anyone with kids to try out the Holiday Train Ride. Upon first getting on the train we were greeted by Mrs. Claus and she handed out marshmallows (which is my daughters favorite) . The train goes slow so my daughter was able to walk between our seat and an empty seat where she was playing with another little girl her age. We later got greeted by the Grinch and had a special visit with Santa. He sat with every single kid and allowed the parents to take pictures. It is quite noisy, but being a mom it didn't bother me. All the workers were very open, warm, and welcoming. We will be back next year.

The Hocking valley railway is A unique opportunity to ride on a passenger train, Hocking valley scenic railway offers either air conditioned train cars,, or open air train cars. The volunteers give you information about the local areas. Volunteers are friendly and helpful. The train ride is about 2 hours long. It takes you to a old time town called Robin's Crossings. They have volunteers who are dressed in period clothing, and they show you how the towns people lived and worked. Overall it's a great family activity for a minimal amount of money. I was fortunate enough to actually meet the conductor of the train.

Horrible experience. We drove more than 2hrs to ride the train. We thought the view would be pleasant in the fall. But, any beauty that might have been enjoyed was blighted by the route the train takes. We saw only abandoned buildings, rusting junk cars, run down, trashy trailer parks, and ugly lumber yards. Nothing but trash along the route. The speakers weren't working very well so we couldn't hear the dialog from the conductor. The music being played over the speakers was not at all appropriate for what was supposed to be an "historic" train ride. In our car was a large group of people from India that was very loud, and obnoxious. I can't recommend this to anyone. It was a complete waste of...

Took the Hocking Hills Holiday Train, and was quite underwhelmed.

Santa was great, and the ride was enjoyable, but the marketing and perception is that there will be copious lights/scenic opportunities along the ride...this is VERY MUCH not the case! Pretty sure there were two, maybe three light displays on the way, and all of those were just houses along the way with lights in their yard, not dramatic displays provided by the Train Depot.

If you have always wanted to ride on a train, this ride would certainly suffice, but if you are looking for a train ride and scenic light displays...this is NOT the train to take!

People were really nice, and the train is cool...just not what...
